Vin Diesel's stirring viral video serenade could land him a musical
The best thing ever just got a little better ...
Hey, remember Vin Diesel's awesome (and awesomely bizarre) Valentine's Day video, in which he sings and emotes alongside Rihanna's bathtub-set "Stay" video? It's now turned into a lesson in the power of positive thinking and taking a chance in life. In a message to his 39 million (!) Facebook friends, the chrome-domed "Fast and the Furious" star reveals that he "naturally" became "self-conscious" when the oddly addictive video went viral, "and thought maybe I shouldn't have exposed myself like that."
But Vin received reassurance about his heartfelt crooning from a very important source. "Then I had dinner with my dad," he explained in Tuesday's post. "And surprisingly... he said he loved it... and thought it was deep on a few levels..."
So deep that Vin has shared a newer, artier cut (with even moodier lighting) of his strangely haunting video warbling, which you can watch below.
And now for the kicker.
According to Diesel, "The studio called today... and asked if I would be interested in doing a musical... Hmmm..."
As we eagerly await the sultry sounds of Vin's baritone over the purring engine of a souped-up car in the next "Fast and the Furious" installment, we'll try to take his P.S. to heart: "Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, you don't have to be perfect... just believe in yourself."
Wise words (no, really, they actually are). As for why he recorded the video, it turns out the serenade was a V-Day gift for his longtime love, Paloma Jimenez. He tells People mag that he decided to dedicate a version to her after seeing RiRi perform at the Grammys.
"People say 'I didn't know you were a Rihanna fan,'" he explains. "How could you not be a fan of her voice, her gift?"
