Marvel Studios has reportedly found its female lead for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."
According to Deadline, the studio is negotiating with Emily VanCamp to come on board the production, which tentatively begins filming this spring. VanCamp is best known for her TV work, which includes stints on series like "Revenge," "Everwood" and "Brothers and Sisters."
VanCamp's hiring ends a search that allegedly included Emilia Clarke ("Game of Thrones"), Jessica Brown-Findlay ("Downton Abbey"), Alison Brie ("Community"), Teresa Palmer ("Warm Bodies"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter") and others.
VanCamp's role has not been revealed, but the fanboy betting money says that she'll be playing Sharon Carter, who in the "Captain America" comics was the niece of Cap's World War II-era love interest, Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell in 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger").
VanCamp will join a cast that includes returning star Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America) and new superhero Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/The Falcon), along with Scarlet Johansson (Black Widow), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) and Toby Jones (Dr. Armin Zola).
The movie, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, takes place after the events of "The Avengers" as Steve Rogers struggles with life in the 21st century as well as threats from his past.
'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' opens in theaters April 4, 2014.
