Original Batmobile from TV series for sale

Auction house won't say how much it hopes car sells for

APLOS ANGELES (AP) — Batman's ride is up for sale — just the thing for cruising on those Dark Knights.

The original Batmobile from the 1960s TV series will be auctioned on Jan. 19 at the Barrett-Jackson auction house in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Bing: More about 'Batman' | More about the Batmobile

The 19-foot-long black, bubble-topped car was used in the TV show that starred Adam West as the Caped Crusader.

The car's owner — famed auto customizer George Barris, of Los Angeles — transformed a one-of-a-kind 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car into a sleek crime-fighting machine. On the show, it boasted lasers and a Batphone and could lay down smoke screens and oil slicks.

And just like Batman, the Batmobile has its secrets. The auction house won't say how much it hopes to get for the car.

Sheldon - of Big Bang Theory - should at least find a way to park that car in "his spot" once. Perhaps the owner will have mistakenly parked it there while he ran in to visit an old friend.  Surely a deal could be worked out just once. Bazinga

I'm interested, but I'd have to have my mechanic look it over, first.  After all, if the atomic batteries don't check to power and the turbines check to speed, the vehicle is of little use, to me.

LOL. really, which original Batmobile.
Their is one in the VOLO car museum in Volo, IL that claims to be the original.
Plus have seen a few others that are shown at Barrett Jackson auctions in Vegas & Phoenix.
Me thinks Barris made more than just a few of them.

This will be a play toy for a rich man, or it will end up in a car museum somewhere.  If I had a preference, I would pick the museum so others can see it up close.

There was one used for the show but there were several others built. I think there are a total of 6. One is in Gatlinburg, plus some of the movie ones.

i have pics of me in the original and this is not the original the stripping is the wrong color bing it is supposed to be red stripes. the one in the museum in IL is the main one used in the show. but there were 5 made for the tv series for different stuff. but the stripes on this car don't match if he repainted the stripes he is an idiot and should be slapped by adam west

Knowing how Craig Jackson and Steve Davis is........they're probably thinking the car will bring in in excess of 1-2 Million Dollars.

Can't wait to see it go across the Auction Block and see it stall at $300K or Less. Then the fun will begin.....we'll have to listen to Craig and Steve both stop the Auction.....Bitch at the people at how they're "Getting the Deal of a Lifetime at $220K".........and then Mope Away when the Gavel finally comes down at $227K.

Yep.....I LOVE the Barrett Jackson Auction.......Funniest Auction to watch on TV. George should send the Car through a Real Auction House where the serious Buyers are......ie - Mecum or RM., instead that Circus Show we watch on TV 2-3 times a year.

The movie versions can be seen at Warner Bros' Studios on their studio tour along with many other cars such as the General Lee.

The Batmobile was definitely ahead of its time. It was one of the Coolest Rides ever. Even Coolerr than the Aston Martin DB5  OO7     That  Exhaust System  was Awsome.

If I would have won the power ball lottery, I would consider buying it!  But Adam West would have to come with it!!!
