Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry will officially return to the "X-Men" franchise as Storm in the upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

Berry, who will be seen later this month in the thriller "The Call," has been the subject of speculation over whether she would return as the silver-haired mutant who can control the weather. Berry played the role in "X-Men" (2000), "X2" (2003) and "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006).

But with the director of those first two films, Bryan Singer, back for "Days of Future Past" and reuniting many of his old cast members, it seemed increasingly likely that Berry would reprise her role.

Deadline reported the news, with Singer himself confirming it via Twitter.

"Days of Future Past" is a time travel story that will feature the younger versions of the X-Men, as seen in 2011's "X-Men: First Class," as well as the older mutants of the previous trilogy. The story deals with an attempt to stop a catastrophic event in the past that creates a dark future for mutantkind.

Other returning cast members from the earlier films include Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Ellen Page and Anna Paquin, while "First Class" stars Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult will also appear. "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage is on board as the movie's villain.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" is out in theaters July 18, 2014.

If the movie is done right it should be good, but I think what would be a better idea for a X-Men movie is the "Age of Apocalyspe" storyline....

She may look nice in leather as someone posted. And may look nice is some of the other costumes required for the role, HOWEVER, Halle's "Storm" certainly is not the "Storm" of the X-Men cartoon. That is not to be mistaken as a compliment. Rather than just having someone look nice in a costume; I'd like to see someone in the role who can actually have the attitude, poise, strength, bravery, diction and class of the character.

I thought Halle was EXTREMELY boring in the part.

I assume they are going to go back in time and stop Xavier and the other from being killed by the Pheonix...That would make sense -as it should have never happened in the first place. They should also consider bringing in the character Apcoalypse - he had the ability to go back in forth in time as he was attempting to collect certain Mutants for his master plan. Just a thought.

Glad to see Halle back as Storm but the writers need to remember that Storm is strong female prescence as was presented in the comics and animated series...I would love it even more if they brought back Jean aka Phoenix because she was revived in the series and they did leave it open for her return...Either way, I can't wait for X-men..I will definitely see it even though I did not care for the younger First Clas...Was kind of boring to me.....Should be a great movie

I would have liked to see Iman Abdulmajid the model in that role. She premiered on the "Remember the time" video with Michael Jackson and Magic Johnson. She looks just like storm in the comic books.

Really?  Her Storm was absolutely terrible...in comparison to the comic/animated Storm.  The character is supposed to be extremely deep and I don't see Berry pulling it off.  Not saying she can't act, cause she can.  Just that if the last 3 Storm performances show anything...that I really won't like this new one.

First Class was much better than the other 3.

Does it really matter? They made a mess of the whole franchise by messing up the story lines and the order in which X-men were active. Besides she was a horrible choice for Storm. Storm was tall, strong and beautiful. Halle is pretty definitely not tall or strong. There are several other/better choices. But since they will screw up another movie, have her back!

Yay!! Love the X-men!

Especially Wolvie - love me some Hugh Jackman!

Wish Gambit was in this also! (Taylor Kitsch)!

They could find a better actress, more convincing and a better build that could pay a better homage to the original Storm.  Again, I am extremely disappointed in their choice. How about someone that actually shares in Storms African heritage; Thandie Newton, an actress with a wider range of emotion, or perhaps Paula Patton...women with just as much if not more appeal than this Berry chick.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Marvel is just that. A "Marvel to behold...!"

Marvel Entertainment is giving movies the shot of sustained adrenalin it needs for the superhero genre.

Quality-wise, "X-Men: First Class" just might have been the best of Marvel's movies. And most of the the movies are very, very good!

Keep them coming. And as Stan Lee says... "Make mine Marvel!"

One storyline I wish they would do, which wouldn't be too hard to do considering our current level of special effects, is the Phalanx Convenant.   But I am hoping that Days will be awesome all the same.

And if they DO put Gambit in....please don't let him be the punk he was in the awful Wolverine movie.  Taylor Kitch is fine for the role, but Gambit doesn't get sucker punched by ANYONE

I always thought that Angela Bassett would have played the role of Storm very well!
