Following the casting of "Parks and Recreation" star Chris Pratt nearly two weeks ago, Marvel has snagged Jason Momoa as the second male lead for its upcoming cosmic adventure, "Guardians of the Galaxy."
According to Latino Review (yes, those guys again!), Momoa will play Drax the Destroyer, once a human being named Arthur Douglas whose family was killed by the alien supervillain Thanos. Debuting in the pages of "Iron Man" #55 (February 1973), Douglas' consciousness is placed in a vastly powerful new body, rechristened Drax and sent to kill Thanos. He joined the revamped "Guardians of the Galaxy" comic book team in 2008.

The massive Momoa is best known to audiences as the warrior king Khal Drogo from the first season of "Game of Thrones." He also played the title role in last year's "Conan" remake and is currently on screens opposite Sylvester Stallone in "Bullet to the Head." The actor reportedly flew to London to screen test for the role of Drax on Wednesday (February 13), beating out Isiah Mustafa, Brian Patrick and Dave Bautista for the part.
Momoa will join Pratt's Star-Lord, a.k.a. Peter Quill, the leader of the Guardians. A third humanoid Guardian named Gamora has yet to be cast. The last two members of the team, a walking tree named Groot and the talking animal Rocket Raccoon, will likely be brought to life through visual effects in the film, which is being written and directed by James Gunn ("Slither").
"Guardians of the Galaxy" is out in theaters Friday, Aug. 1, 2014.

YES! But, would love to see him in the 'altogether' without all that costume covering 'it'. Am looking forward to this. Can't his Dragon Queen bring him back to life in 'Game of Thrones'. Why did they have to kill him off. He was the most enticing, interesting character there. And, he didn't speak any recognizable language either - ha, ha. He didn't have to.
