Happy Birthday Maureen O' Hara
Movie star Maureen O' Hara turns 89-years-old
There are still some old movie stars around, thank goodness, and they at least remind Hollywood that it once was actually glamorous. They remind cine-files anyway.
The great, beautiful, fiery Maureen O' Hara turns 89-years-old today. Best known for her terrific on-screen chemistry with John Wayne, she starred in five films with the Duke -- "Rio Grande," "The Quiet Man," "The Wings of Eagles," "McLintock!" and "Big Jake."
She also starred (among many other pictures) in the gorgeous, touching "The Hunchback of Note Dame" alongside Charles Laughton, "How Green Was My Valley" (directed by John Ford), and with Brian Keith and Haley Mills in one of Disney's best live-action pictures, "The Parent Trap."
If you're down, if you're sick of most of the slop hitting theaters, if you want to watch a romantic movie that doesn't involve Gen Y/Gen X bromance or a dippy make-over sequence, watch John Ford's "The Quiet Man" with O'Hara and John Wayne. It lifts one's mood considerably. And it has one hell of a "you're my woman!" moment. Watch the trailer below. And Happy Birthday Miss O' Hara!
