Box Office Goes 'Wild'
'Where the Wild Things Are' Tops Weekend Box Office
The box office went, yes, wild for Spike Jonze's masterful "Where The Wild Things Are" bringing in $32.5m in its first weekend. Beating Jamie Foxx's thriller "Law Abiding Citizen" (who cares about those?), Foxx and Gerard Butler hit second place.
Since viewers and critics are mixed on "Where the Wild Things Are," it will be curious to see where the picture lands next week, after word of mouth. There are those who find the movie wearisome. Don't listen to them!
The much buzzed "Paranormal Activity" came in at number three, and due to audience response, I have a feeling it will hold strong. It's scaring people. And scares in horror movies are (apologies) scarce these days. Being compared to "The Blair Witch Project" (only better by many viewers), it should grow in popularity. See it on the big screen. It's always more fun to be terrified with strangers...
So three cheers for wild things, paranormal creatures and the choice of the public.
Here's the top five movies over the weekend:
1. "Where the Wild Things Are"
2. "Law Abiding Citizen"
3. "Paranormal Activity"
4. "Couple's Retreat"
5. "The Stepfather"
