People's Choice Awards: Prepping for the ceremony with some possible winners to watch for

The show airs this Wednesday night

Before we get down to the nitty-gritty of awards season with the big guns like the Golden Globes and, of course, the Oscars, we've still got some laughs ahead of us with more fun (and less serious) awards shows, like this week's People's Choice Awards. A much more light-hearted awards outing, the PCAs include all kinds of categories for not just movies, but also television and music, and are rounded out with such basic categories as "Favorite Movie" (note, not "Best Movie") and more fan-friendly favorites like "Favorite On-Screen Chemistry." And, obviously, they're voted on by you, the fan (or, you know, the people), not some staid voting body.

The leading acting nominees for this year's PCAs include Channing Tatum (with four nods), Emma Stone (three nominations), and Jennifer Lawrence (also three). The most popular movie of the year appears to be "The Avengers," which is going strong with nominations in such categories as Favorite Movie, Favorite Action Movie, and Favorite Movie Franchise, along with various acting nods for stars like Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, and Robert Downey, Jr.

It seems that, as is often the case with most award shows, a bevy of nominations for a certain production or person will ultimately spell success, so look for Tatum, Lawrence, and "The Avengers" to likely clean up. Something else to watch for? With "The Twilight Saga" wrapping up last year, the wildly popular franchise only managed to pull out a nod for "Favorite Movie Fan Following," but those "Twihards" will likely pull out one final win. It will be interesting to see just how strong of a showing the presumed heir to the throne, "The Hunger Games," will pull off, but with star Jennifer Lawrence proving to be more popular than ever, odds are likely (ever) in their favor.

And, if there is any justice in the world, "Pitch Perfect" will end up with a Favorite Comedic Movie, because that unexpected joy is just aca-awesome. However, it does face stiff competition in "Ted" and "21 Jump Street." Sing-off, anyone?

Check out the full list of movie nominees after the break, thanks to the People's Choice Awards. Who are you cheering for?
