'Tron' sequel officially on at Disney
For now, at least

Although nobody—except for maybe a few nostalgia-addled fanboys, not to mention Jeff Bridges's accountant—was exactly clamoring for a reboot of "Tron" in the first place, a sequel to 2010's "Tron: Legacy" is now in the works at Disney. "Tron 3," as some are inevitably calling it, would presumably continue the adventures of Garret Hedlund and Olivia Wilde's boring, ultimately pointless characters. While the first "Tron" introduced CGI to the mainstream, and "Tron: Legacy" made 3D... more mainstream, it seems somewhat unfair to expect a third film to similarly push the boundaries of the medium."Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski is already attached to the sequel, along with the original producing team and screenwriter Jesse Wigutow, a veteran scribe with numerous uncredited rewrites and unproduced remakes of "The Crow" and "The Osterman Weekend" to his name. While "Legacy" was oft considered disappointing by industry prognosticators, it did make around $400 million worldwide, indicating that there's still some life in the brand yet. Will all this pay-off for Disney? Only time will tell. For now, it seems all the rest of us can hope for are a lot more shots of Ms. Wilde traipsing about in a glowing neon jumpsuit.
