Great news, comedy fans! According to Deadline, funnymen Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart are nearly set to co-star in the upcoming "Get Hard" for Warner Brothers. No, this isn't a sequel to 2007's criminally underrated "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," nor is it about male enhancement surgery. Apparently, "Get Hard" will tell the story of a soft investment banker (Ferrell) who, after being wrongfully convicted of a crime, enlists the help of the guy who normally washes his car (Hart) to get him ready for prison. Hence the title. Still, it seems safe to expect plenty of, ah, penile humor, as is Ferrell's wont.
Will this be the title that finally introduces Kevin Hart to the mainstream? Or did that already happen in this past August's "Think like a Man?" And does this project remind anyone else of Spike Lee's "The 25th Hour?" And is that weird? Because, while no doubt a fine movie, "The 25th Hour" was almost relentlessly bleak... Then again, darkness and humor often go hand in hand, especially in movies; see also: "Fail Safe" and "Dr. Strangelove," two movies about roughly the same subject matter—nuclear war—one grim, the other... also grim, but equally hilarious. Any way, where were we? Yes, "Get Hard." Upon further reflection, the premise sounds vaguely offensive. Couldn't it be just as funny—and more compelling—with the roles reversed, with Hart playing the banker and Ferrell the down-and-out car washer? Or would that waste Hart in the straight-man's role? We could probably go back and forth about this all night...
