Joseph Gordon-Levitt Has to Hunt Down Bruce Willis in 'Looper' Trailer

...only it's a *bit* more complicated than that

Here's the skinny: it's the future, just far enough that time travel will soon be invented, but doesn't yet exist. As such, crime syndicates send witnesses back in time to be disposed of by Loopers like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) so that their bodies don't actually exist in their present. It's a well-paying job that is eventually capped off by capping one's self and thus closing their own loop.

What happens, though, when your future self (or rather Joe's, played by Bruce Willis) isn't ready to die? That's the twisty premise behind "Looper," writer-director Rian Johnson's follow-up to "Brick" and "The Brothers Bloom." If I hadn't already heard from colleagues singing the film's praises, and if I didn't already enjoy each of Johnson's other two films, I'd like to think that this new trailer -- also embedded below -- would hook me just fine.

The make-up efforts to have Gordon-Levitt look more like Willis take a bit of adjusting, but other than that, this looks like lively sci-fi fun. Also starring Emily Blunt, Jeff Daniels and Paul Dano, "Looper" opens on September 28th.
