2012 Cannes Film Festival Lineup Announced
North American filmmakers have a strong presence in this year’s competition

At a press conference earlier today in Paris, artistic director Thierry Fremaux revealed the list of films that will be part of the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival. Opening the festival this year will be Wes Anderson’s 1960s drama, “Moonrise Kingdom,” starring Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, and Frances McDormand. Other North American films that made the lineup include David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis” starring Robert Pattinson, Lee Daniels’ thriller, “The Paperboy,” with Nicole Kidman, Andrew Dominik’s crime film, “Killing Them Softly,” starring Brad Pitt, and Jeff Nichols’ fugitive drama, “Mud,” featuring Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConnaughey.
Of the 1,779 films that were submitted for consideration, Fremaux chose 54 films from 26 countries. “A Cannes selection is a trip through the cinema and through the world,” he said at today’s press conference. Click here for a complete list of the films that will be part of this year's celebration. The official poster for the 65th Festival de Cannes features screen icon Marilyn Monroe. The jury for the main competition will be headed by Italian director Nanni Moretti with British actor Tim Roth assuming that role for the festival’s “Un Certain Regard” section. Recent Oscar nominee Bérénice Bejo will host the opening and closing ceremonies. Stay tuned for more on this prestigious event which will take place in the south of France from May 16 to May 27.
