Just get the box of tissues ready right now.In Alex Dawson and Greg Gricus’ debut feature documentary, "Wild Horse, Wild Ride," the pair of filmmakers turn their cameras on the "Extreme Mustang Makeover Challenge," an annual event that gives 100 daring people just 100 days to turn a wild mustang (culled from government land) into a broken steed ready for a new home and a better life. The contest culminates in Fort Worth, Texas, where the riders and horses have to prove themselves in competition and in a subsequent auction.
And - get this - if a trainer wants to buy the horse they've worked with for three months, they have to bid for them alongside the public. Again, tissues.
If you are at all sensitive to the very special bond between humans and horses, "Wild Horse, Wild Ride" will likely tug on your heartstrings (heart-reins?) in ways that just might leave you permanently changed. The film's first trailer alone is packed with humor, heart, and lots of tears (some of them even appear on the screen!), the sort of stuff that probably brims right out of the already well-regarded final feature.
"Wild Horse, Wild Ride" opens in limited release on August 24. Check out the film's first trailer, thanks to Apple, after the break.
