It's Official: Shia LaBeouf Not Returning for Fourth 'Transformers' Film

Will you miss Sam Witwicky?

While the news that Shia LaBeouf is not returning for Michael Bay's next "Transformers" film it not entirely surprising, it still helps clarify some of the elements of the upcoming fourth entry in the franchise. The Hollywood Reporter (via The Playlist), recently sat down with Paramount president Adam Goodman, and the interview yielded all sorts of information about upcoming Paramount films, including the next "Transformers."

When THR asked Goodman, "Is making 'Transformers 4' without Shia LaBeouf risky? Is he out?", the executive responded, "The story is going in a different direction now. Ehren Kruger [who wrote the past two 'Transformers' movies] is writing it for us, and we're starting to engage, but I can't say anything more. "

Back in February, when the news hit that those transforming space cars would be back, along with director Bay, the filmmaker released his own statement about the film on his website. In that post, Bay said, "Steven Spielberg and I are working on a whole new reimagining of Transformers, the fourth installment. We have been working on the idea for a few months. I'm excited about where it's headed." While details are slim, given that Bay coined the film "a reimagining" so early in the process, it's no surprise that LaBeouf won't be back.

As The Playlist points out, LaBeouf has already said essentially the same thing, as he told MTV News last year: "I just don't think right now there's anywhere to take Sam. And it's not that I don't enjoy working with Michael. I love working with Michael. I would do any movie Michael wants to do. I just don't think there's anywhere to take it with Sam."

The fourth "Transformers" film will be released on June 29, 2014. Who would you like to see star in it?

Yes, I am going to say it.

I didn't see the last one because Megan Fox wasn't in it and now you can bet I won't be seeing the next one without Shia. It's not the same when movies change characters in sequels or change love interests. It looses it's appeal to me. That's just my opinion.

I think the fourth movie should be a prequel. It needs to show the Cybertron war against the Autobots and Decepticons. It showed little images in the movies but the back story is the best part of the transformers!!

I love Transformers! Me and my son are huge fans and everytime he sees a yellow car he yells "There's bumble bee!!". Loved 1 and 2-not so crazy about the 3rd one because Megan Fox was not in it but to make a 4th one without Sam? I probably wouldn't watch it.Shia Labouf will always be "Sam" -no one else. I will miss not having more Transformers movies made that star Shia Labouf and Megan fox.

I would like to see Lady Gaga get her head ripped off by Galvatron.

Who cares about the actors??? All I really want is for them to finally show the freaking DINOBOTS!!!!!!

Bottom Line. There are numerous options in this world to choose from. People will never agree in all areas. Granted, it's life. The fact of the matter is, if you want to watch the movie, go for it. If you don't want to watch it, don't watch it.  Period.  I notice that when we are given an opportunity to share our thoughts regarding a film, the news and/or music online, there is always that open door for the negativity and/or unnecessary comments towards actors.  At end of the day, I am sure they are making a s**t load more money while some are here criticizing  their work and/or acting performances.  In the chaotic days we are currently living in, you only make yourself look totally ignorant. How about we have the transformers be the stars. The first 3 focused too much on the humans and the story was terrible. Forget having a star let the machines be the main characters.

Terrific, don't you just LOVE when they do this sh*t? You don't take out the main Char in anything during a series. Now, i'm NOT so inclined to watch it. If it isn't something like this, it's something like Ed Norton not playing The Hulk in the Avengers or Spider man being someone else. Amazing stupidity.

Making a forth  movie makes no sense at all. All the bad decepticons are all dead from the third movie , so who would be the bad robots in the forth one? Also , as the story line goes from the movies you just can't have a Transformers movie without Sam because without Sam there is no Bumblebee ! A forth movie makes no sense at all just forget it !

How about Megan Fox, Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansen, and the redhead from GI Joe all together. They could be dressed in camo and white tank tops, and there could be an explosion in a jello factory...

That would be an ok movie to watch.

Transformer without LaBeouf? So much for a subtle transition. Hope they don't end up producing a box office bomb.
Apr 27, 2012 10:27AM

I think they should expand on other characters to make the plot and story line more interesting like Galvatron and more of the epic transformers that we have come to know that would put the movie series over the top and keep the story line evolving to a deeper hold on its audience

Shia was a good actor as was Megan Fox. But, it's not about the human characters, it's about the giant robots raging an epic civil war one each other. As long as they bring back the soldiers like Lennox (Josh Duhamel) and Epps (Tyrese Gibson), and then bring Unicron into the battle then we'll have ourselves a great film.

I really enjoyed all three Transformer movies and missed Megan in the third one. I will definitely miss seeing Shia in the fourth installment. I can understand Michael wanting to take the next movie in a different direction, but at the same time, I feel that changing characters in sequels do not always have the same appeal, at least not for me. Oh well....hope the next movie is successful and just as good as the first three.

I love all three of the Transformers movie. But the the 3rd one without megan fox was worried, she was a good actress.  but the fourth without sam/ shai there is no Bumblebee and replaceing shai for someone eles it's going to wronge because he was in all three. I love love love Bubble Bee and Optimus. Take them out and I'm done!

Turn the Transformers into space hookers and star the Secret Service.
Apr 27, 2012 12:20PM
It sounds like it may be a prequel which is really what a lot of people want anyway.

I like all 3 of the Transformer movies alot! I actually own them. Watch them when I can't find anything else to watch. I will miss Shia on there, I will probably watch it, if not good, it won't be one I purchase. However, I love love love Bubble Bee and Optimus. Take them out and I'm done!
