Imagine a dystopian future wherein personal freedom has been outlawed, where every citizen is told what to do, what to believe, and who to love. That is, more or less, the premise of "Matched," the Ally Condie young-adult novel trilogy that Disney is now seeking to turn into a franchise. ("Reached," the third and presumably final novel in the series, will be published this fall.) According to The Hollywood Reporter, "30 Days of Night" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" director David Slade has been brought aboard to helm the adaptation.Bing: Ally Condie | David Slade
As in the novels, the film would tell the story of Cassia Reyes, a young woman who falls in love with someone who's not her official "match," thus running afoul of the sinister "Society" that runs, well, all of society. As is seemingly requisite in this type of story, there's also a convoluted love triangle. Thankfully, no sparkly vampires are involved.
