Slate has an article which points out that, amidst all the current hoopla about vampires, is the realization that we have always been in the middle of a vampire craze.

In its interactive guide, we are shown the periods from 1960-2009 when vampire obsession spiked and waned. "Twilight" hits in 2005, during the "resurrection" brought about by TV's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

More "New Moon" merchandise and tie-ins are coming out--some are pretty great, while some are a little strange. But there's definitely something for every Twifan!

The "New Moon" action figures are now available at Amazon and other retailers. Not totally sure why they are priced differently (prices shown are from Amazon): Jacob is $22.35; Alice is $28.99; Bella is $17.88; and Edward is the cheapest at $15.95 (huh?!). You also have the option of getting all four in a set for $74.55.
"New Moon" action figures
Each figure is about 7 inches tall. My complaint on this is that they should have kept their sizes true to life. I mean would you make Yoda the same size as Chewbacca? Frodo the same size as Aragorn?

The "New Moon" Board Game is available on October 15, for $14.99. The description says, "Test your knowledge of New Moon, and your friends. Face challenges from the Quileutes to the Volturi. Travel the board, answer questions, be the first player to collect all 8 scenes from New Moon, and reunite Bella and Edward to win."
"New Moon" board game
I would be very interested to see the pictures on the game's cards and board! I wonder if they are the ones we've already seen on other merchandise and on the "New Moon" official site, or if they're newer ones.

The "New Moon: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion" is available on October 6, for $10.25. I know I'm getting this for sure, as I loved the "Twilight" one.
New Moon: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion
I am certain it will have an equal amount of interesting behind-the-scenes photos and director's insights, as well as details on makeup, costumes, stunt work, and set locations. People magazine has a few photos from the book in its latest issue--have a look!

If you are on Team Jacob or Team Wolf, then I'm sure you can't live without the Wolf Pack posters. Not completely sure where to get these, however...If you do, please share in the Comments!

In an earlier post I wrote, please see the video for Death Cab for Cutie's "Meet Me On The Equinox."

Update: Ed Droste from Grizzly Bear announced yesterday [9/20] that Grizzly Bear's contribution to the soundtrack will feature Beach House's Victoria Legrand.

For the lowdown on the lesser-known artists from this list, check out MTV's quickie guide here. Some excerpts:

Band of Skulls ("Friends"): This White Stripes-by-way-of-Radiohead English trio formed in 2008 and released the blues-rocking Baby Darling Doll Face Honey in March. They played at this summer's Lollapalooza festival and feature the alternating vocals of bassist Emma Richardson and guitarist Russell Mardsen.

Anya Marina ("Satellite Heart"): The San Diego-based singer/songwriter, sometime actress ("100 Girls") and radio DJ released her second album of playfully sexy pop tunes, Slow & Steady Seduction: Phase II in January. Her songs have been featured "The Real World," "Gossip Girl," "Grey's Anatomy" and "How I Met Your Mother."

Editors ("No Sound But the Wind"): England's Editors emerged out of the dark rock sound of bands like Interpol and their inspiration, Joy Division, earning a string of overseas hits with alluring tunes like "Bullets" and "Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors."

LA Times has some seriously fabulous set photos from "New Moon." Here's a sampler (get out the lobster bib, I mean it):

No words. (Mostly because my breathing has become constricted.)
Rob Pattinson on the set of "New Moon"

Taylor Lautner looking feral, whoa.

Kristen and Rob waiting for the start of a scene. Intense, man.

Director Chris Weitz and Rob chill out during a scene blocking.

This looks like something from my dream last night. Rob and the animal trainer with a white wolf, in a scene where Bella's bed is on the forest floor.

I'm convinced that Chris Weitz is trying to bring my heart to a stop.

The KillersGrizzly Bear

The Killers and Grizzly Bear have been confirmed by their reps to be included on the soundtrack for "New Moon."

The film's music supervisor, Alexandra Patsavas, chatting with The New York Times, declined to comment on these two bands. However, she was "confident" that Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, and Band of Skulls--who "New Moon" director Chris Weitz revealed as participants during Comic-Con--would be in the final cut.

Death Cab For Cutie's "Meet Me on the Equinox"--released to MTV during the VMAs last Sunday night--is the soundtrack's first single. Here's the entire track:

These ladies can all head to the back of the long, long line!

Katy Perry (Who is just sooo cool, love her. Might even let her cut in line in front of me. Or not.). Although she does know him in person; he had dinner with her and a few others in L.A. last winter, according to GQ Magazine.

"X-Factor" winner Alexandra Burke recently told STV that she'd love to attend the "Twilight" (sic) premiere. She also flashed a cheeky grin and admitted, "I'd like to meet him." Him, as in His Royal Robness.

She may have to duke it out with another British pop star who also has her eye on Rob Pattinson.

Frankie Sandford of girl band The Saturdays recently said, "My celebrity dream date would be Rob Pattinson."

See the whole STV piece here.

Sharon Osbourne, never one to mince words, tells Ellen exactly how she feels about Rob. Sharon, let's get arrested together! [Must add that I love how she chucks off Jon & Kate's photo.]

Yay, it's Hump Day! Which means a Roundup is in order. Sorry, but not much in the way of recent photos. The Rob Drought is still in full effect.

Which means it's time for some gratuitous Robward candy. How about a couple of screen caps from the most recent "New Moon" trailer? Aren't these just...wow?

People magazine's latest Best Dressed List included a special mention of Rob:

Robert Pattinson, Brad Pitt and Bradley Cooper are among the guys noted for their dashing sense of style.

"Dashing sense of style" isn't what comes to mind when I think of Rob with clothes on. He has many, many talents, but let's face it, getting dressed isn't one of them. I'll prove it to you.

Proof #1: The Stoli shirt. 'Nuff said.
(Read this if you don't know the long, amazing history of this shirt.)

Proof #2: Rob wears his clothes until they literally fall apart. Remember the collar on this shirt?
Rob on "Remember Me" set

Proof #3: Rob forgets to remove the tags sometimes. It just shows he's not thinking too hard about what he's wearing.

Proof #5: Rob borrows his friends' clothes. Here he is at the Teen Choice Awards (with Jackson Rathbone), wearing a shirt he admitted to have borrowed from his friend Marcus Foster the night before. And this isn't the first time he's done this.
Rob and Jackson at the Teen Choice Awards

Verdict? I wouldn't give him a Best Dressed award quite yet. But...I totally agree with @ROBsessedBlog about giving him the "Best Cleans Up Good" award! I mean, look at him here at Cannes in May.

Of course we can't forget how he looked at the Oscars, OME. There you have it, Rob--the Best Cleans Up Good award is completely yours!

Rob's hands are all over the place. Ahem. Remember the handprint ceremony at Planet Hollywood Times Square in November 2008?

Planet Hollywood has put those prints up! They should sell t-shirts with his handprints (thanks to @Lorabell for this fine, fine idea).

This week's video features Rob's own "Let Me Sign," from the "Twilight" soundtrack. Oh please may the drought end soon...

If you're one of those creative and crafty types (such as my friend Nik, who sent me this--thanks, Nik!), you'll like this. Totes crafty.

Make your own "Twilight" cards! Nothing says "I care" or "I'm a TwiNerd" more than making your own Bella and Edward-themed crafty cards.

I've been in those stamp and paper stores. I've run my fingers over all the amazing and beautiful supplies. I've sniffed the paint, the glue, and the paper. But I always leave empty-handed. Not because I'm not crafty. Because I'm lazy.

If you're a patient and crafty sort, then here you go! See more here.
