'Breaking Dawn, Part 1' Only Gets Two Nominations for 2012 MTV Movie Awards
MTV is changing up their movie awards voting and categories

The nominations for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards have been announced and surprisingly, 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1' only garnered two of them: Movie of the Year, and Best Kiss (for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart).
In years past the 'Twilight' films have dominated the MTV Movie Awards--not just in the nominations, but also in the awards won. Five awards in 2009 for 'Twilight,' six in 2010 for 'New Moon,' and five again in 2011 for 'Eclipse.' What happened in 2012?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, MTV is "classing up" its Movie Awards, dropping several awards categories and adding new ones, as well as creating an "academy" of actors, producers, agents, and other industry insiders to vote on nominees. The goal seems to be gaining more credibility for the event, which has been "criticized as merely a venue for Hollywood to promote its summer movies."
“We want to make sure some of the unexpected, smaller, quirkier films have a chance,” says MTV president Stephen Friedman, who adds that the Movie Awards is still a hit with its core viewers (last year’s show pulled in 4.5 million viewers, registering its largest teen audience since 2004). “But it wasn’t growing the way we want it to."
With only two MTV Movie Awards events left for 'The Twilight Saga' films, this downward trend in 'Twilight' nominations will be seen as either a relief or a disappointment, depending on your level of Twi-Hardness.
