Pattinson's 'The Rover' Gets the Greenlight

A futuristic western set in Australia

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Pattinson's film 'The Rover' has been greenlit by Screen Australia.

Pattinson and Guy Pearce will star in this futuristic western set in the Australian desert, to be directed by David Michod ('Animal Kingdom'):

...tells the story of Eric, who has left everything, everyone and every semblance of human kindness behind him, as he’s forced to join an injured gang member, Rey, to hunt down Rey’s gang after they steal the last of Eric’s possessions.

Filming will begin in South Australia in late January 2013, reports the Herald Sun.

Unfortunately this exciting announcement came on the same day the scandal between Pattinson and Kristen Stewart broke.

MTV contemplates the roles he's taken since his name became synonymous with the 'Twilight' franchise:

After starring as a lead in a blockbuster series like "The Twilight Saga," many actors might have a hard time adapting to other roles. However, since "Twilight" made Pattinson a household name and heartthrob in 2008, the British actor has brought his box-office popularity to a series of roles in well-received films.

Interestingly, all of his post-"Twilight" choices, from "Remember Me" to "Water for Elephants," have so far been in the drama genre. His next film, "Cosmopolis," (opening August 17) sees Pattinson in an edgier role, as it tells the story of a Wall-Street one percenter losing control in a stock market free fall. Pattinson's fifth and final film as Edward Cullen, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2," hits theaters November 16.

What do you think of Pattinson's resumé?  Will adding a western beef it up even more?  Sound off in the Comments.

Think Rob would be great in any movie to diversify his skills as an actor. Would love to seem him in a comedy or a romance/comedy. The western will be interesting - working alongside a great actor/Pearce and director/Michod.
