Depending on how far you get through their debut album

By Danielle Cheesman Tue 7:52 AM

In romantic (and cliche) "overnight success" fashion, almost exactly a year after they posted their viral YouTube cover of Chris Brown's "Look at Me Now" (with female half Amy Heidemann hitting, yes, every syllable of Busta Rhymes' impossible verse), the duo that is Karmin released their debut album, Hello. And despite there being no overt renditions of others' tunes, the real-life couple (also comprised of Nick Noonan) continue to do what we've known them to do best: borrow sounds and styles you know you've heard before, but are vested in seeing their take & twist on.

Mr. Raspy brings New York to the South for new mixtape

By Alex Thornton Fri 7:04 PM
Mixtapes these days are usually composed of freestlyes and throwaways from upcoming albums, and for New York artists in particular, those throwaways typically include a lot of attempts at making club tracks over “down South” beats that aren’t necessarily what they’d normally go for. Jadakiss flips the convention on its ear with his latest mixtape, Consignment, going all-in with Southern beats but leaving the behind the notion that they should just be scraps picked out of the trash.

Because his "Lost in The World" video served as his redemption

Kanye West can get away with a lot. Damn near everything. Publicly criticizing Presidents, humiliating undeserving little girls, dissing NBA stars of the same oblivion. And who can forget the Twitter rants? And yet all's forgiven in a matter of months, usually coincided with the release of music we're all forced to begrudgingly admit is, yes, genius-good, damnit!

This weekend was no different.

...at least judging by his reaction to the new Chief Keef track

By Alex Thornton May 3, 2012 6:27AM
Things have been going well for 18-year-old producer Young Chop, who has been enjoying the response to up-and-coming Chicago rapper Chief Keef's "I Don't Like" (which Chop produced). The song itself wasn't a megahit nationwide, but it was enough to get the attention of Kanye "Everybody Wants My Attention" West. Yeezy brought G.O.O.D. Music superstars Pusha T and Big Sean along to remix the track (with the one and only Jadakiss for good measure), making the song a big hit on blgos and music sites this week.

Why You Should Get To Know Him: Because he's watching that throne, ready to take it.

...and creates a horrible album while he's there.

When you go back and watch the original “Star Trek,” it’s often funny how the impossible tools of space exploration still seem antiquated in their design. While building an Enterprise-esque ship is still a ways off, we know that it won’t have boards with giant knobs or big glowing red buttons, nor will the bridge likely be a mod-inspired set that looks like a swinger’s living room. Listening to Pluto by Future feels remarkably similar—a version of what we all thought the future of music might sound like a decade ago, but something that we’re all actually far beyond here in the present.
