Kendrick Lamar takes ironic "Backseat"
It's a new year, but 2012's rap rookie of the year isn't slowing down.

Kendrick Lamar had a pretty solid 2012. Well, it looks like the Compton-based MC is just getting started. Two days in 2013 and Lamar dropped a video for his red-hot "Backseat Freestyle."
Directed by Lamar, Jermone D and Dave Free, the video (which you can see here but is very NSFW) is a gritty documentary-style clip that follows the burgeoning MC both on the road overseas and in his hometown. Despite being a newcomer to hip-hop, Lamar's vintage West Coast vibe yet again comes through as the video is eerily reminiscent of classic clips from Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.
The highlight of the video -- for us -- has to be a cameo from Lamar's real-life parents who recapture some of the magic they create on "Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City."
