Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones to headline Orion Fest
Second annual festival to be held in Detroit June 8-9
Last summer’s inaugural Orion Music + More festival in Atlantic City, New Jersey, turned out to be a very well-received event, as Metallica brought in lads of bands spanning various genres as well as special exhibits and events, all simply a way for the band to share things that they liked with the rest of their fans. The 2013 version has been set for June 8 and 9 at Belle Isle in Detroit, MI, and judging by the artists that have been announced so far, there’s going to be plenty of variety yet again, which is never a bad thing.
Headlining will be Metallica (of course), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, Rise Against, and electronic musician Bassnectar. Among the other bands announced (full list below), highlights include Tomahawk, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Cauldron, Fu Manchu, and indie faves Japandroids, Death Grips, and The Joy Formidable. Also returning will be James Hetfield's Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, Kirk Hammett's Crypt, Lars Ulrich's Hit the Lights Film Tent and Robert Trujillo's Vans Vert Ramp, the Metallica Museum, among others.
Lars Ulrich had this to say in the press release: "Last year's Orion Music + More Festival was hands down the highlight of the Metallica calendar. A great time was had by all, especially the band members. The fact that it also resonated with enough of our fans and friends that it warrants another go-around in '13 is beyond exciting. I can think of no better place than the Motor City, with its rich and diverse history of music, for the second ride on our Orion festival train. Bring it the f*** on!"
