High on Fire Pulls Out of Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival
Matt Pike entering rehab
This summer’s Mayhem Fest just got a little less awesome this afternoon. The perpetually great High on Fire have announced that they have put their touring plans on hold as guitarist Matt Pike has entered treatment for alcohol rehabilitation. The band, which also features drummer Des Kensel and bassist Jeff Matz, has issued a statement, saying, “High on Fire would like to thank everyone involved with the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival for the opportunity to be a part of this year's tour. We regretfully will have to bow out as our friend and bandmate begins his recovery, but very much appreciate having been asked to be a part of this summer's festival run.”
Coming on the heels of four very well-received shows Pike played with Sleep this month, this will be a disappointment to many who were waiting to see High on Fire play songs from their very good sixth album De Vermis Mysteriis, but of course Pike’s health is of utmost importance. Here’s hoping one of metal’s most likeable artists comes back stronger and more creative than ever.
