Spiders Premiere New Single "Weekend Nights"
Debut album 'Flash Point' out October 5
If you follow Headbang you’ll probably know that I’ve been carrying on about Spiders for a while now. Led by singer Ann-Sofie Hoyles and former Witchcraft guitarist John Hoyles, their stripped-down, straightforward take on late-‘60s/early-‘70s hard rock is contagious stuff, and as I found out back in April, they’re just as great, if not better, when seen live.
It’s taken a while for for their debut full-length album, but Flash Point to be completed, but it’s all ready, and set for an October 5 release via Crusher Records. And take my word for it, the album is worth the wait. Comprised of nine songs over a very short 28 minutes, Flash Point is a lean, ferocious little rock 'n' roll record, the foursome channeling early Pentagram, The MC5, and The Groundhogs, with Ann-Sofie’s persona giving the music some Suzi Quatro-style spunkiness. It’s been a great year for Swedish retro rock, but for all the terrific new albums by Horisont, Witchcraft, and Graveyard, Flash Point is the best of the lot. It’s energetic, charismatic, is tremendously catchy, and nary a second is wasted.
The album’s first single is the groovy album opener “Weekend Nights”, and in advance of its September 7 release, it has just been posted at Soundcloud. Trust me, you’ll want to crank this one.
