Rise to Remain Releases New Song As Free Download

Rise to Remain arrived a year ago with a great deal of fanfare from the UK metal press, partially because the London band play the kind of highly accessible metalcore the kids always like, and partially because their singer is none other than Austin Dickinson, son of legendary Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson. Although they don’t bring anything new to the table on the debut City of Vultures, sticking to fairly rote good-cop-bad-cop arrangements, overall it boasts above average songwriting skill for the genre, its melodies and vocal hooks far, far stronger than anything the likes of As I Lay Dying and The Devil Wears Prada ever put out. And just like his dad, that Dickinson kid can sing.

 

Unfortunately Rise to Remain has had a rough go of it leading up to the North American release of the album, which was supposed to happen last October (I’ve had a review of the album sitting on the shelf at Decibel for nearly a year as a result!). First it was pushed back to January 24, which would coincide with the band’s much-ballyhooed North American tour opening for Machine Head and Trivium, but in early January bassist Joe Copcutt and drummer Pat Lundy abruptly left the band. Consequently, the release date was pushed even further back, to June 5.

 

Things are looking up right now, though, as City of Vultures is still coming out June 5 on Century Media, they have a new bass player and drummer, they’ve graduated to the main stage at the Download Festival in Donington Park, England, and they’re set to play the entire length of the Vans Warped Tour on this side of the Atlantic from June through August (full dates posted below).

 

In addition, four brand new tracks have been added to the North American release of the album, and one of those tracks, the very good “Heartless”, has been made available as a free download today. So by all means, give the track a listen. This young band has a bright future.
