Sunny Sweeney spoofs Justin Timberlake/Andy Samberg video

Clip was created as a lobbying effort for the ACM Awards

The lobbying efforts have begun for the artists nominated in the Academy of Country Music’s three recently announced new artist categories, with new female vocalist nominee Sunny Sweeney leading the charge with a clever video.

Voting begins at VoteACM.com on Monday, so Sweeney got a head start by shooting this very clever spoof of Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg’s widely viewed SNL Digital Short, “Dick In A Box.” View Sweeney's version, the much tamer “Click In The Box,” below.

“Getting nominated for ACM new female vocalist is maybe the coolest thing to happen to me,” says Sweeney in a press release. “I’ve been playing country music in honky-tonks and dive bars for almost a decade, so finally getting this kind of recognition is absolutely huge! I started out playing in Texas for beer and cheeseburgers, so this is just so gratifying.”

She adds, “In all seriousness, it’s validating to know that the ACM considers my kind of country music and my voice something worth keeping an eye and an ear on, and for that, I’m very grateful.”

The winner in the new female vocalist category—which also includes nominees Jana Kramer and Kacey Musgraves—will continue on to compete for the new artist of the year award at the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, set to air live April 7 on the CBS Television Network.
