Brantley Gilbert, Jana Kramer get engaged
Gilbert proposed on his birthday, at the historic Ryman Auditorium
People.com breaks news of an engagement between two country stars: Brantley Gilbert and Jana Kramer. Both are nominated for Academy of Country Music Awards this year in the best new male and female artist categories, respectively.
Gilbert proposed in Nashville on Sunday, which was his 28th birthday. Kramer is 29. They have been dating for about a year.
Gilbert reportedly rented out Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium for the day, and proposed at the venue, the former permanent home of the Grand Ole Opry.
“I was so surprised,” Kramer tells People about the proposal. “He asked my mom for permission before he proposed, which meant a lot to me.”
“We could not be happier!” the couple tell People exclusively in a statement from their rep. “We are so excited to share this special time with our loved ones and cannot wait to start the rest of our lives together.”
Kramer previously was married to actor, director, writer and producer Johnathan Schaech (now 43) for just a little over a month in 2010. Schaech also was previously married to actress Christina Applegate. He popped the question to Kramer in an elaborate ice rink proposal, and later posted a video of the proposal on Facebook.
