Kenny Chesney wins touring awards, announces 2013 stadium dates
Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw also win Billboard Touring Awards
Thursday night at Billboard’s annual Touring Awards in New York, Kenny Chesney won two awards, for “road warrior,” as well as “top package” for his Brothers of the Sun tour with Tim McGraw, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, and Jake Owen. This marks the eighth year Chensey has won the top package award, which honors the year’s top-grossing tour with three or more artists on the bill.
Earlier that same day, Chesney announced the first 17 stadium dates on his No Shoes Nation Tour, which kicks off March 16, 2013 in Tampa, Fla., in what will mark Chesney’s 20th year of touring. More tour dates will be announced in the coming months.
The tour will feature special guests Eric Church, Eli Young Band and newcomer Kacey Musgraves. Several tour dates will feature the Zac Brown Band in place of Church.
“I believe what we’ve created on the road is something special,” says Chesney in a press release announcing the tour. “The fans, myself, the band, the crew. But it’s really the fans who have given us a wonderful, unique life. What we’ve all built together is the ‘No Shoes Nation.’ There is no better name for this tour.”
Other country winners at the Billboard Touring Awards were Lady Antebellum, which won the “breakthrough award” for its Own The Night 2012 World Tour, and Tim McGraw, who won the marketing and promotion award for his “Long Love Cars” campaign with Penzoil. The breakthrough award honors the highest grossing touring artist who cracks Billboard’s Boxscore recap for the first time in their career based on tickets sales and other touring data. The Lady A tour hit 11 countries on three continents.
