Sugarland Beats Brooks & Dunn For CMA Vocal Duo

Says Nettles, "They've had a good ride"

Sugarland was named vocal duo of the year at the CMA Awards, beating the recently split Brooks & Dunn—thought to have been a sentimental favorite—as well as Montgomery Gentry, Steel Magnolia and Joey + Rory.

Asked backstage in the press room if they'd been rooting for Brooks & Dunn since it was their latter's last year of eligibility, Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles had a funny and honest answer.

While noting that Brooks & Dunn were early supporters and took Sugarland out on tour early in the latter's career, Nettles said, "At the same time, it’s every man for himself out there and they’ve had a good ride of it. We’re proud of them and hope they’re proud of us,"

Nettles also called the win "validating," saying, "This has been a year of growth and expansion for us, and we’re super excited about the fans we’re bringing into country music."

Brooks and Dunn should have won! Kix and Ronnie deserved it!

Personally, I love Sugarland. This girl can sing, and entertain. Those two really connect well together. I do not own her new CD yet, but as for her last one, I can listen to it over and over and sing for hours! Go Nettles!

Nettles is the worst female country singer in decades.  I'll stop whatever I'm doing to change the station when she (they) come on.  Sounds like someone stepped on a cat.
