'For once... I'm speechless,' says Grohl

Dave Grohl has paid tribute to late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain after the grunge icons were named among the 2014 inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The "Smells Like Teen Spirit" legends were among the nine acts to make the cut and will officially become part of rock 'n' roll history when they are entered into the fabled hall of fame next April.

Foo Fighters star Grohl, who played drums in Nirvana, admits he is delighted by the honor. He says, "For once... I'm speechless. From the basements, to the dingy clubs, to the broken down vans, to... the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

"I'd like to thank the committee not only for this induction, but also for recognizing Nirvana for what we were: pure rock and roll. Most of all, thank you to all of the fans that have supported rock and roll throughout the years, and to (frontman) Kurt (Cobain) and (bassist) Krist (Novoselic), without whom I would not be here today."

Novoselic adds, "This is a great honor. Thank you to the people who nominated and voted for us. Thank you most of all to Kurt Cobain. And to everyone who's kept rock music going strong for 60 years and counting."

KISS, Peter Gabriel, late Beatles manager Brian Epstein, Hall & Oates, Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam, singer Linda Ronstadt, producer Andrew Loog Oldham and Bruce Springsteen's sidekicks, The E Street Band, make up the other inductees.

Well it could be worst ... They could of elected this year.. The Great  William Hung singing SHE BANGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH NOOOOO ..

It's Going be bad enough just how strung out and embarrassing Courtney Love will be when she show up and mess up the whole show by her self...

Hey that be a good match!!!!!  My guess she be lucky if she can get William Hung will take her to the show.. No other man in his right mind would take her to a 5 cent back room 3 minute "flick" with sticky slime all over the place.

I honestly could say I would not take her anywhere in public even for 1 Billion Dollars..

Hall and Oats were a big part of 80's music, and they deserve it.   I say this as total metal fan from the 80's and they are pop music.

Alice in Chains are so much better and have so many more hits. I just don't understand how they are overlooked.

"Think I'll spend eternity in the city
Let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away
And pretty bodies help dissolve the memories
There can never be what she once was to me"

That one sticks in my head more than Nirvana, but I guess it depends what you hear when you're 14.

Another year that Grand Funk Railroad has been tossed to the curb like an old shirt... must be some palms being greased by the insiders who decide who to induct. Sure as hell isn't a people's choice involved/

I'm just glad RUSH finally made it in last year. I'm beginning to question the HOF committee in a big way after snubbing RUSH and KISS for so long. What's up with that?

Another year that the Moody Blues get stiffed by the HOF. WTF. I guess that their body of work & longevity means nothing. Cat Stevens who turned his back on his music and a side band (even if they DO kick it, they are not an act unto themselves) get selected. A travesty.

other bands from decades ago were more deserving.   no doubt they were good...but some have been better a longgggggggggggggggggg time.
