Stop the Presses: Pitchfork Makes a List!

Ptchfork has made a new list of their 200 favorite records of the past 10 years. Must be Friday! As with all such lists, the choices are both arbitrary and canonical, since P4K remains the gold standard for telling indie rocker types what to think and what to buy (or rather, steal, then go see live). The top 20 (seriously, how much do you care about 21-200?) is an intriguing mix of what we are meant to call indie rock (Sufjan Stevens, Arcade Fire), hip hop (Kanye, Jay Z, Ghostface), and weirdo music (Daft Punk, Panda Bear)—no major surprises (oh look: Radiohead and Wilco!) and only a few groaners (though I guess it was naive to hope the great rock'n'roll swindle known as the Strokes wouldn't make the cut), and a couple of nice validations. The best part of seeing the list is knowing that the decade is almost over, and a new, more interesting one awaits. Goodnight, aughties.
