British Royal Mail commemorates classic album art on stamps

Call me a sentimentalist if you insist, but I still believe in a place called Post Office. You can keep your fancy emails and text messages, some of us still favor the physical fact of letters, postcards, and more to the point, packages full of mail order records. This is all a propos of the fact that in this country, the idea of the postal service honoring a series of classic rock LPs with a series of postage stamps is profoundly implausible. Sure, you get the odd Elvis Presley (and it makes international news for months before and after), but Damn the Torpedoes? Reckoning? Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain? Street Survivors? Nevermind? Never happen. That's because this is not England!

Pink Floyd, Blur, The Clash and Led Zeppelin are among the acts set to feature on a new range of Royal Mail stamps.
A set of 10 stamps featuring classic British album sleeves will enter circulation on January 7 next year, according to stamp collecting website Norvic Philatelics.
Albums in the collection include 'The Division Bell' by Pink Floyd,'Parklife', 'London Calling', 'Led Zeppelin IV', 'Power, Corruption & Lies' by New Order, Primal Scream's'Screamadelica', 'Let It Bleed' byThe Rolling Stones, Coldplay's 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head', 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars' byDavid Bowie and Mike Oldfield's'Tubular Bells'.
Royal Mail are said to have assembled a shortlist of classic albums, though initially some were deemed unusable due to the darkness of the image.
