Elvis Presley wasn't the only birthday boy this week.
David Bowie turned 66 yesterday, and stunned fans who had assumed he was retired with news of a new album, "The Next Day," with a single and video available now. The single, "Where Are We Now," is hardly the stuff of rave-up celebration—it's a somewhat dour number (with a genuinely unsettling video) about Germany, but it's still new Bowie (produced by Tony Visconti, no less!) and that is worth anyone's time. The record, whose cover art is also a huge mind-boggler, with its unflinching reference to one of his most iconic images (see below:),
will be released in March.
