'Glee' and 'Archie' bridge comics, TV in crossover

McKinley High and Riverdale High to combine in four issues

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Blaine Anderson and Kevin Keller? Betty Cooper and Noah Puckerman?

Things are not as they usually are in the halls of William McKinley and Riverdale high schools.

Bing: More about 'Glee' | More about 'Archie'

And that's just the way it should be, said Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who writes for "Glee" and penned the four-issue story arc, "Archie Meets Glee," that sees Riverdale and McKinley's famous and vocally talented students come together in a crossover crash that blends the snark of the television show and the long-standing wholesomeness of Archie, Jughead and Betty, among others.

The two worlds combine this week in the pages of "Archie Comics" No. 641, a story drawn by artist Dan Parent that extends through issue 644.

Show creator Ryan Murphy said the story honors and celebrates "the two worlds. Not just their similarities, but their differences, which I've think we've done."

So what prompted it? A friendship between Aguirre-Sacasa and Archie Comics co-CEO Jon Goldwater, who met at New York Comic Con in 2011.

"The Archie brand is very versatile and we're continuing to explore our limits every day," Goldwater said of the latest crossover.

"How perfectly these worlds mesh and how funny the comparisons are between the characters," said Aguirre-Sacasa, who was given free rein to tell the story that uses the conventions of wormholes and time warps to place the characters in the different universes.

"The idea was that rather than just have them meet at a competition to do something that was a little bit more comic bookish," he said, adding that he's long been a lover of comic books, science fiction and alternate realities.

The kids from both sides will have to figure out how to get home but, in the meantime, why not have some fun?

"Once you got that big story up and running you could tell a lot more little stories. Veronica, for example, sets her eyes on Finn immediately, but Veronica Lodge's social status is ... at the bottom of the food chain," Aguirre-Sacasa said, adding that ultimately she and Kurt become best friends.

"And back in Riverdale, when Josie and Pussycats realize that Mercedes Jones has the greatest voice ever, they set out to recruit her for the band," he said. Kevin Keller, Archie's first openly gay character, meets Blaine, who's been "zapped in Riverdale and Kevin is immediately intrigued by this new bow-tie wearing student," he said.

Then of course, there's Sue Sylvester, the fast-talking sardonic queen of mean. She'll square off against Jughead, Aguirre-Sacasa said.

I can't locate the ten reasons people have dwindled watching Glee but I will tell you why I did.  I thought I would enjoy it at first but then it became a bizarre of teens outrageous problems that makes it unfit as a family show.  I am sorry, I above all normal people can accept some political statements and problems teens have but this has become nothing but a political statement.  At that point it is no longer entertaining and too mature for a family show.  One that I would not want to explain situations to my preteen grandchildren.  Shame on those that want to force behavior such as what has been broadcast in this show onto everyone at a family hour.  I got sick of it after two or three times.  Now smash started out very similarly and I soon became tired of all the adultery, back stabbing and the intracy of forced gay relationships upon us with all complexities that it involves.  This season it seems to have improved and matured into a show that deals more with the in and outs of talent, production, artistry, work involved and the real back stabbing that does not persist as much, in reaching power.  More importantly it is becoming a wonderful productions like Broadway and the backstabbing is enough but not too much as to reality.  This season seems to be one that I would enjoy viewing with my grandchildren that would inspire them to reach for goals not sex and desires of lasciviousness as previous season.  It is much milder this season and I hope Smash has paid attention to Glee's failures which I attribute as I mentioned previously above to their demise.  We also like to encourage religious scruples as much as possible but in today's politics and blatant denial of the ten commandments is not desired these days.

I haven't enjoyed Glee as much as did the first three seasons. It has changed, I can't stand Rachel and Finn being apart. I hope that Rachel finds out that jerk she's living with is trash and goes back to Finn. I do like the old cast when they are on but I don't like Sues attitude or the new glee club members. Really Ryan how could you take a great show and ruin it. I don't know how much more I can watch it but I will buy the Archie meets Glee comics.

After the last episode, we quit watching Glee. It is too filthy for my family and many others are following. Too bad, the show started off great. Family's keep the show alive and it is no longer a family show. The show needs to be moved to HBO and rated R!

Just what we need,a comic book for adults-not children.GLEE has gotten so filthy I quit watching it.It was, I thought, to be for teens. Is it any wonder with all the blood and murder shows and let's not forget the violent games on nintendo, etc. that kids think it is alright to murder and do what they want. This is the parents fault, they have let down thier values and morals until there's nothing left. They act like a bunch of animals instead of humans. The Bible say's A Nation who forgets God will be turned into hell.We are almost there.....
