Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd dominate with their paso doble

By Kate Mulcrone Apr 9, 2012 8:16PM

'Dancing With the Stars'/ABC

Rock Week was a bit of a flop, guys. Almost without exception the stars turned in routines that fell flat or just plain went wrong. The only notable exception was Donald, who turned in a paso that brought the house down. The leaderboard is certainly shaken up this week, so it could be anyone's turn to go home.

Here's a quick look at how the stars did this week:

Last Night on TV: Watch recaps | Video: Watch clips and more

Sherri Shepherd

Sherri's tango was a lot of fun, but she seemed a bit out of her element. Although her lines were beautiful and her rhythm was great she stumbled a bit at one point and had trouble selling the dance as truly hers. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't up to her usual standard. Len and Bruno both praised the routine, while Carrie pronounced it good but lacking in exuberance. This was by no means a bad dance, but competition has been awfully stiff this season – let's hope Sherri's fans are turning out in droves.

Score: 21/30

Katherine Jenkins

Katherine's paso doble was intense! The routine had that push-and-pull drama that's so key to a paso doble. The choreography was incredibly difficult and Katherine kept up with Mark and then some. The crowd absolutely loved this one, but the judges were less sold. Bruno commented on Katherine's lack of precision, and Carrie Ann on the lack of cohesion in her footwork. Len put it more bluntly. He said the dance had drama, but didn't quite deliver. Ouch. Still, it's hard to believe that one so-so performance will knock Katherine off her pedestal.

Score: 24/30

Jaleel White

Jaleel's tango was a lot flashier than his other routines have been but that wasn't a bad thing. He and Kym moved well together and the routine struck a good balance between actual dance and flips and tricks. Jaleel really sold the routine, his posture was excellent and his rhythm was absolutely perfect. Len thought Jaleel's footwork was a bit lacking but praised the performance as a whole.

Score: 22/30

Melissa Gilbert

Melissa's paso doble was another great performance though it did leave Maks on the floor. (He slipped on the floor.) Melissa has great rhythm and this dance really highlighted her stamina. Bruno thought the routine was a bit frenzied, and Len agreed that he'd like to see Melissa in a slower, more lyrical dance. Carrie Ann was singing a different tune. She called Melissa's paso her best dance to date! Melissa got off to a rough start in this competition, but she's really brought her A-game the last two weeks. Let's hope she'll stick around.

Score: 22/30

Donald Driver

Like his premiere cha-cha, Donald's shirtless paso doble was incredibly intense. In this case, that worked since the paso is just a really intense dance. He was fierce, moody and totally in charge. There were some incredible spins in the routine and Donald kept pace with Peta and made sure his footwork was sharp and precise. The judges loved this one, especially Carrie Ann, who called it one of the most memorable dances of the season.

Score: 27/30

Gladys Knight

Gladys' tango was a bit too studied, though she certainly got a tough song ("Bohemian Rhapsody"). As always, Gladys' footwork was very precise. The judges didn't love the routine though you could tell they hated to tell her so. All three commented on the challenging rhythm of the song. Len said Gladys needs to make her steps a bit quicker and that her posture isn't what it should be. Not Gladys' best performance.

Score: 20/30

William Levy

William's rock 'n' roll jive was really different than the other dances he's done so far. It was good to see his funny side though the routine was a bit of a disaster. William got thrown off in the middle of the routine and never quite got his groove back. Also, Cheryl lost her shoe at one point. Len didn't mince words telling William that he had screwed up, but Bruno pointed out how much the crowd loves William. Carrie Ann encouraged him to stay focused. Let's hope he listens!

Score: 22/30

Roshon Fegan

Roshon's Viennese waltz was a real departure from his usual supercharged hip-hoppy routines. He committed to the waltz emotionally and he had a lot of grace. Bruno praised Roshon's elegant lines, and Carrie Ann compared the routine to "watching the climax of a Disney movie." Len said, "Good job" ... and then launched into some technicalities about footwork. Well, he wouldn't be Len if he didn't find fault with a mostly fantastic routine. Roshon took a risk this week, and it paid off.

Score: 26/30

Maria Menounos

Maria's tango felt a little spare and understated compared to her other dances, but that could be because she's dancing on an injured foot. She and Derek certainly struck the right moody tone and, as always, moved beautifully together. (Though he did accidentally clock her in the face at the end of the routine.) Maria's posture was fantastic and her leg extension was something else. Len said the routine lost control at times but praised Maria's posture. Bruno was a fan of the staccato action of the routine, which he dubbed "brilliant." This was a brilliant dance, but it's not clear how much Maria's injury will affect her performances going forward.

Score: 26/30

Gavin DeGraw

Gavin's tango was moody and measured but a bit problematic. He struggled with timing and his movements were a bit stiff. He also had trouble moving with Karina, though they did pull off an amazing turn-and-roll toward the end of the routine. Len said he liked the dance because it had flair and attitude, but criticized Gavin's posture. Bruno pointed out that Gavin's frame was off and his shoulders kept creeping up.

Score: 23/30

Who won over the judges: Donald and Roshon
Who won over the crowd: Donald and William

Who needs to step it up: Gladys and Sherri

'Bachelor' and fiancée plan on inviting many co-stars to televised wedding

WENN

"Bachelor" Sean Lowe has revealed he and fiancée Catherine Giudici plan on inviting their former co-stars to their wedding, including his ex-girlfriend Desiree Hartsock. The Texas hunk has had the rare opportunity to star in both "The Bachelorette" and "The Bachelor," going against 24 other men for one woman and ultimately narrowing down a field of 26 ladies to find his true love in Giudici. Through the shows, both Lowe and Giudici have made long-lasting friendships with their co-stars. And while some might find it odd that they are still in contact with the people who have had several make-out sessions with their exes, the happy couple still plans on inviting their close reality TV friends to their big day.

Bing: More about Sean Lowe

Lowe tells HollywoodLife.com, "I'll absolutely have some of the guys that were on 'The Bachelorette' with me at the wedding. I don't know if they'll necessarily be groomsmen, but (winner) Jef (Holm) and (runner-up) Arie (Luyendyk Jr.) are both great friends of mine. So, they'll definitely be there, and (finalists) John Wolfner and Doug Clerget, some of the other guys that were on my show.  Catherine, as weird as it may seem, she'll have some girl friends that were on my season of 'The Bachelor' at the wedding as well. Desiree might go. I know they're friends. But I know she's really close with Lesley Murphy. So, I know she'll be at the wedding, and Robyn (Howard) and Daniella (McBride), too. Her experience was a lot like mine. She made great friends, probably wasn't expecting to, but walked away with a lot of lifelong friends." While Lowe and Giudici have confirmed they plan on having a televised wedding, they have yet to set a date.

Season 1 champ explains on Twitter she'll be busy touring this summer

By MSN TV 4 hours ago

Kelly Clarkson/WENN

WENN

Kelly Clarkson has reiterated she will not be joining "American Idol" as a judge for the upcoming season. Despite ongoing rumors that the Season 1 champion would be joining the singing competition as part of an all-alumni judging panel, Clarkson has shot down the possibility due to the fact she's hitting the road for a U.S. tour this summer. When a Twitter follower recently asked if she would be joining "Idol" for the 13th season, she responded, "I can't because I'm touring this summer w/ Maroon 5. I hope they get some great people though. I'd hate to see my beginning end."

Bing: More about Kelly Clarkson

In addition to rumors of Clarkson nabbing a spot at the judges table, Season 3 finalist Jennifer Hudson and Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert have also been part of the mix. Last month, veteran Randy Jackson along with Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj announced they would be departing the struggling series. The future of the last remaining judge, Keith Urban, is still unknown, but he has expressed interest in signing up for another season if asked back.

You mean to tell us reality television isn't real?

'The Real Housewives of New York City'/Bravo

By Michelle Strub

MSN TV

Dashing all of our hopes and dreams that reality TV might in fact (or at least even a little bit), be real, the cast of the "Real Housewives of NYC" was caught allegedly staging and re-filming scenes over the weekend. Shocked. We're shocked.

Bing: 'Real Housewives of NYC' | Heather Thomson | Carole Radziwell

According to onlookers in Southampton where the show was filming, Heather Thomson and Carole Radziwell were acting like actors when they took instructions from producers, took breaks in dialogue to wait for camera setups and shot multiple takes.

"Carole and Heather stood on Meeting House Lane and waited for the crew to call 'rolling,' before walking toward the camera and sitting on a park bench. They even shot the scene twice!" observed a concerned citizen.

It's not the first time a "Real Housewives" cast -- or any reality show for that matter -- has been accused of faking reality, but we still can't help feeling like we just found out all over again that Santa Claus doesn't exist.

'Bachelor' and Catherine turned down offer for even more screen time

By MSN TV Tue 7:52 AM

Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudice/WENN

WENN

Former "Bachelor" Sean Lowe has revealed he and fiancée Catherine Giudici were offered another shot at reality TV stardom, but they decided to turn it down. Just one week after Lowe proposed to Giudici on the season finale of the hit dating show in March, Lowe continued his run on ABC by joining the cast of "Dancing With the Stars." While he didn't nab the Mirrorball Trophy, his extended run on reality TV had critics believing he was just in it for the fame. Lowe slammed the reports at the time. And during a recent interview with talk show host Katie Couric, he backed up his statement by revealing network bosses offered the couple even more screen time with a new series - which they turned down.

Bing: More about Sean Lowe

Lowe divulged, "ABC approached us about doing a six-episode miniseries a while back, and at the time, it wasn't really something that we wanted to do only because we need time to be ourselves and to be normal and not to have cameras around. I don't know if that's something we would entertain in the future or not." Giudici added, "Camera chapter is done. This is a new one. It's nice to be quiet and get to know each other on a different level." Despite the fact the happy couple turned down the miniseries offer, Lowe and Giudici still have plans to have a televised wedding on the network but have yet to set a date for the big day.

'X Factor' judge wishes she was as straightforward and courageous as her boss

By MSN TV Tue 7:47 AM

Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell/WENN

WENN

Demi Lovato has confessed she admires "X Factor" creator Simon Cowell's honesty and wishes she was as courageous as he is when it comes to telling wannabes the truth. The "Heart Attack" singer has returned for a second season as a judge on the singing competition, reclaiming her place next to fellow mentor and frequent rival Cowell. And, although the two playfully butt heads on the show, Lovato does commend him for having no filter when it comes to doling out usually harsh criticisms to poorly performing hopefuls.

Bing: More about Demi Lovato

She tells Heat magazine, "Whatever he has to say, it's the honest truth. Sometimes I don't agree with him, but most of the time he says what I'm wanting to say but, like, I just physically can't because it's so mean! He knows what he's talking about. He knows that he's doing, and he's gonna tell you straight up, whether you want to hear it or not." Lovato and Cowell are currently in the middle of auditions for Season 2, along with new judges Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland. They will hit three more cities across the U.S. this summer before the live shows premiere this fall.

Host confesses he hated having to eliminate teary child contestants

By MSN TV Tue 7:42 AM

Phil Keoghan/WENN

WENN

"Amazing Race" host Phil Keoghan regrets filming a family version of the series, admitting he found it extremely difficult to eliminate the kids competing on the show. After 12 years, 22 seasons and 13 Emmy Awards, "The Amazing Race" is still one of the most popular reality series on television. And having been with the series since its inception, Keoghan has been through many ups and downs. But the one thing he wished had never made it to air was Season 8's family edition where families of four competed in the race around the world, including the youngest contestant at the age of 8.

Bing: More about Phil Keoghan

During a roundtable discussion with the Hollywood Reporter, he admits, "I wish we hadn't done the family version of 'Amazing Race,' but I'm proud that we tried it. It didn't work, and it came back to the whole thing of having to eliminate kids. It's hard enough to eliminate anybody because they want to be there so badly. And I had to look into a kid's eyes with the tears pouring down with a raised eyebrow and dramatic pause, cameras coming in: 'I'm sorry to tell you, you've been eliminated.'
