What was up with LeAnn Rimes on 'X Factor'?

Singer's bizarre performance has Internet abuzz with concern

gossiprocks.comHeads are scratching over a LeAnn Rimes performance on Part 1 of the "X Factor" Season 2 finale Wednesday night. The former teen star seemed wobbly-voiced while singing her signature hit, "How Do I Live," as a duet with 13-year-old finalist Carly Rose Sonenclar.

The Huffington Post asked: "Was LeAnn Rimes out of it?" TMZ, as usual, went further, stating that the performance "has a lot of people wondering if she hit the bottle before taking the mic." (Rimes voluntarily checked into rehab in August for what her publicist called "anxiety and stress.")

If you'll notice, Rimes misses the high note completely at 3:02. Then, at 3:22, she leans on her duet partner -- perhaps a little too hard to believe it was just for emotional support. Rimes caps the performance with a slack-jawed, vacant-eyed smile.

Are you concerned for the singer's health, or do you think this is being blown out of proportion?

 

Update: Since this blog entry posted, LeeAnn Rimes has contacted TMZ, through her lawyer, to insist that she was not drunk or otherwise impaired, and that any awkwardness displayed was due to the fact that "I was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song."

However, in the same update, TMZ also published a new tidbit of information: It heard that Rimes made a plate of food backstage and "spilled it everywhere." (Rimes' lawyer told TMZ he didn't know anything about that, and reiterated that Rimes insists she was "stone cold sober.")

 

Part 2 of "The X Factor" Season 2 finale airs Thursday, Dec. 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.

Wow, sounds like people like to think it's so easy to get up in front of millions of others and perform......As for Rimes' personal life, she wasn't the only one cheating, but it seems that she is the only one being subjected to the title homewrecker...Ever heard it takes two to tango?  It's so easy for us everyday joe's to sit back and judge and get our jealous little snipes in.  I for one am in awe that these guys have the balls to get up and do what they do, and I thank them for it!

leann sucked balls last night couldn't hit half her notes that girl did so much better then her. That girl in no way had any part in leanns clumsy mouth fumbling bombardment of that song.

Yes, LeeAnn may be a hot mess, but to blame her for this rendition, NO. That poor little girl doesn't have the voice to pull this song off, I am sorry to say.  LeeAnn had to down play the song so as to not show up the little girl too much.  I am sure if LeeAnn had sung that song alone, she would have knocked it out of the park.  Get real people, LeeAnn Rimes personal life may be a soap opera, but her talent is the real deal and it's hard to compare to it.

song... butchered.  Carly -- note body language after the performance.  CLOSED to the "wrapper".  And did we all miss the comment in response to LR's desire to wrap?  The "and you're doing a good job of it" comment by Mario???  The kid looked stunned, the former kid looked stoned.  The kid was diplomatic, as best as a kid can be -- kudos.  The former kid was dipstickmatic, as much as they all end up being.  Christ, even Brit was shocked.

What a hot mess. LeAnn has been on a huge downward spiral for the past few years. Her voice was horrible.

Whether LeeAnn was drunk or not the fact is she placed blame on a 13-years-old kid - who sounded pretty good - instead of saying, "I had an off night" and leave it at that. LeeAnn needs to apologize and own up to the fact SHE was the one who sounded bad.

I think that folks are taking things out of context.  I think that LeAnne did a good job; and the little girl did good as well.  But, it just looks as though LeAnn is not trying as hard, as thought it's second nature, and the idea is that it was the little girls job to prove herself, not the other way around.  I think LeAnn has paid her dues. 

Not crazy about LeAnn's hair style... Folks are just taking an opportunity to "pick" on LeAnn Rimes...She has sang better, but that's her style as a singer not necessarily a performer... It's just that hip-hop and moving on stage is not her thing.

I think both singers did very poorly both individually as well as together in what should have been a very beautiful duet.  And from looking at Britney's face, she knew it too, but of course she had to mask her true feelings & lie when asked what she thought.

I think LeAnn was trying to sing differently than she usually does.  She was trying to be something she is not. She was changing her voice and her tone so therefore she couldn't hit the high notes.  Whatever she was trying definitely did not work.  She needs to go back to the way she used to sing and stop trying to act soooo grown up when obviously she still needs to work on  that...The young 13 year old sounded way better and LeAnn should give the girl props for doing so!

Might I re-remind everyone...the Carly-LeeAnn Performance WAS on Wednesday night...BEFORE the voitng took place.  Again I say...I strongly beleive this cost Carly the number ONE spot.  Tate was enjoyable to watch...but this is a singling/performance​ competitition...and CARLY hands down, was the BEST singer and PERFORMER!  I say to those who fetl sorry for Tate, because at 37 he needed his big break and that Carly has plenty of time...you've got the idiology behind the show backwords.  May the BEST win...and she didn't!!!  But, as with most of this competitions, it seems that it is usually the person in the number two spot that out superstarts the actual winner.  Think Jennifer Hudson...or may I ask, where is Taylor Hicks now.  I could go one and one.  One thing for sure, this isn't the last we'll here from Carly Rose Sonnenclar!!!

LeeAnn Rimes sounded good to me and she did not over shadow a 13 year old singer, which I thought was so sweet and if you have ever song before she held her to let her know to bring the note down as she ended....... PS: The votes were all end before they song

To me it looked like poor Carly Rose was helping LeeAnn with the song and in fact I couldn't help but wonder if this performance cost Carly Rose the big win.  Shame on you LeeAnn.  There was DEFINITELY something amiss with you on Wednesday night.

It was painful to watch - yes Carly definetely had issues with the song - it was NOT a good song choice, but LeAnn did not HELP with her eyes closed  - she didn't sing WITH the contestant, she did her own thing with the song which made her look like she was more worried for herself than Carly. I said it right then - THIS lost Carly the win, and it did I think.
