'Cash Cab' Canceled

Discovery Channel puts brakes on rolling game show

By Corey Levitan Apr 19, 2012 9:01AM

discovery.comIt's the end of the road for "Cash Cab." According to Vulture.com, the Discovery Channel has canceled its Emmy-winning game show after nearly seven years and more than 200 episodes.

Bing: More about 'Cash Cab'

Originated in the U.K. in 2005, "Cash Cab" was a novel hybrid of "Jeopardy" and "Taxicab Confessions" in which unsuspecting passengers -- some random, some pre-screened -- entered a camera-rigged cab to find their driver offering them cash to correctly answer trivia questions.

Also: What shows will be returning next season?

Comedian Ben Bailey passed his New York City cabbie exam just to host the Discovery version. And that's good, since he has something to fall back on now.

Repeats will continue to air in syndication.

That's what happens when you hire stupid people to try to make smart decisions

I love this show! It was entertaining whilst being educational. Obviously you all did not do a survey before making this decision. Leave the show, America. It actually showed intelligence instead of those shows that promote violence and bullying .

It's such a waste to see this show go. It was really fun trivia. Every time my family would go back to NY we would hope to get in the cash cab.

An odd thing I've noticed about the comments on this article in comparison to most I see on the web is the people commenting here are at least intelligent enough to spell correctly.

Seems all of the TV shows that are getting canceled require some sort of intelligence...onward with the dumbing down of America.

Although it is sad that the Cash Cab people lost their jobs the fact is that there are other places to sell their show than the Discovery Channel. I'll be looking for them showing up on one of Discovery Channel's competitors.

How sad - great show and very entertaining.  I'll never understand why viewers would rather watch inane shows like "housewives" of anything, egotistical bachelors/bachelorettes, and most of the other reality shows.  Will miss you lots Mr.  Ben Bailey. Would like to see more of you!

Which IDIOT made this decision?????  We always enjoy watching this show even when the contestants are so ridiculously dimwitted. The grimaces on Ben's face made us hoot with laughter!!!!  The "Driving a cab in NYC" game show could go on FOREVER! Oh well, another favorite show bites the dust! Come on ABC, NBC,or CBS pick it up!!!! We do NOT watch "Survivor" "The Bachelor" "Jersey-"anything" "Swamp People" "Hillbilly Millionaires" ---- Give us something that is genuinely entertaining to watch as well as "NCIS."

Talk about lousy news!  This was the most fun show on cable!  I hope one of the other networks has the good sense to pick it up!

I really enjoyed this show. I didn't realize it had I also thought every passenger was been on for seven years. random. I did not know some passengers were pre-screened. That is certainly a disappointment! I thought they were all random.

This was our favorite show, one of the few we watch anymore.  We have even set our recorder for 2 am so we wouldn't miss it.  Wonder who made this (poor) decision...

What a loss...It was clean, entertaining, and informative...I guess now they'll come up with some new "War"...Storage Wars in Syria, Trucker Wars, Ghetto Skank Wars, Shoe Salesman Wars, or how about Screen Door Wars where people see how loud they can slam a screen door!

First Pee Wee's Playhouse gets whacked, nowe Cash Cabs?  What are they going to replace it with:  "Trayvon Martins Parents Give Lesson on how to Raise Children"?

This is proof that scheduling executives can stick their heads up their as-es.

I rarely watch TV and this was one show I really enjoyed.  If they take Bones off the air I'll be watching no TV :-)  I still miss FireFly - I don't get why the good shows get cancelled and they keep crap like the Bachelor!

All the reality shows are about the rich and stupid. What next cash Limo? Can you imagine Paris Hilton on this one. Host "what is 1plus1" Paris?????????????????????

Well, maybe a major network will pick it up? Better this show than those lousy and stupid reality shows. Come on ABC pick it up and get more viewers or how about NBC or CBS. You need good ratings for the summer. I hope it does get picked up again. I enjoyed it very much.

It was such a fun show to watch.  It seems that all the good shows get cancelled.  Maybe Ben should have driven with his shirt off!
