How do you top signing Nick Jonas as a celebrity mentor? L.A. Reid has now shown rival judge Demi Lovato exactly how. According to TMZ. he nabbed Justin Bieber for the upcoming season of "The X Factor."

Bing: More about Justin Bieber | 'The X Factor'

The 18-year-old pop superstar was photographed by paparazzi on the deck of a Hollywood Hills home Monday, alongside Reid, dishing out advice to contestants who looked way older than him. They were apparently filming the "judges' houses" phase of the competition, in which the season's top 32 acts are whittled down to the 16 who will compete in the show's live episodes, which air in October.

It's not clear how rival judges Simon Cowell and Britney Spears hope to out-celebrity this mentor. But it's a good bet that the voicemail for Lady Gaga's agent is now full. (As we reported Tuesday morning, Jonas has signed on to mentor Lovato's crew.)

Season 2 of "The X Factor" premeires Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

They are all 18-19 years old, how can they be "mentors"? None of them make their own music, they are manufactured stars not musicians. This is a joke and I would be insulted to go on a show and be judged by children.

And this is why I don't take these shows seriously.  Can you get someone who has actually lived live, and been down as well as up to mentor?  Someone who is at least 30 years old?

I don't care how he started out,Bieber stinks. I wasn't overly thrilled with the x-factor last season but now that they're hiring all these tween and teen idols to judge and mentor I won't be wasting my time watching again.

umm justin isn't untalented. unlike most stars, he didn't start out on a television show or something like that. all he had was a guitar and a dream. i don't understand why everybody hates on him?  im just saying but, don't hate on someone who's living their dream. i personally think, justin will make a perfect mentor for xfactor.

Talent shows have become nothing more than celebrity marketing and aggrandizement.

Well at least all of these up and comers are going to get some much needed advice on what they need to learn most: how to be a whiney bitch.

Come on L.A.  The kid can't even sing. His popularity is only because he is so damn cute and the teeny boppers love him.  You really want him as a mentor???  He needs one, as his cuteness will fade and his teeny boppers will grow up; then what will he do, he certainly won't be relying on his vocals. He would not have even made it to the finals on American Idol or X Factor.
