The 18-year-old pop superstar was photographed by paparazzi on the deck of a Hollywood Hills home Monday, alongside Reid, dishing out advice to contestants who looked way older than him. They were apparently filming the "judges' houses" phase of the competition, in which the season's top 32 acts are whittled down to the 16 who will compete in the show's live episodes, which air in October.

It's not clear how rival judges Simon Cowell and Britney Spears hope to out-celebrity this mentor. But it's a good bet that the voicemail for Lady Gaga's agent is now full. (As we reported Tuesday morning, Jonas has signed on to mentor Lovato's crew.)
Season 2 of "The X Factor" premeires Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
