After what seems like five years of hype, promos and rumors, "The X Factor" hit American television Wednesday night with the first two sets of auditions in Los Angeles and Seattle. Simon Cowell, the mastermind behind the original "The X Factor" and the overly opinionated judge from that little show called "American Idol," has combined the two and created "The X Factor USA." How did he combine the two, you ask? He signed on Paula Abdul as a judge, duh! Yes, we're all looking forward to their love/hate relationship playing out in front of all of America ... again.

Along for the ride is music mogul L.A. Reid. If you aren't entirely sure who he is, do not fret. He reminds you whose career he helped mold every time he opens his mouth to give a contestant a compliment. Also, he and Simon seem to have very different musical tastes. Team Simon is way cooler, just saying. Lastly, we should address the issue of the final judge. The first hour of tonight's show will include Cheryl Cole, while the second hour will feature the former lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls.

Much of the hoopla surrounding the show's premiere had to do with who would round out the judges. Cheryl got her start on "The X Factor" with the super girl group Girls Aloud. It was said that she won't be continuing the show because Americans are too dumb to figure out what she's saying through her thick accent. Hence replacing her in New York with Nicole Shw ... Sker ... oh, right!, Scherzinger. This makes things much easier. Thanks, "The X Factor"! Oh, yes, and there's another not-exactly-necessary, good-looking, model-like host from a foreign country named Steve Jones. Now, a lot happens in a matter of two hours so let's break it down -- the good, the bad ... and the downright baffling should do the trick.

The Good

  • Quite a few youngsters impress the judges on this first day of auditions. Rachel Crowe is only 13-years old, but she opens the show with a big voice and adorable cheeks! Her rendition of "Mercy" by Duffy is so much better than the original. Simon Cowell says, "We'll be hearing a lot about you." Randy Jackson, I'm sorry, I mean L.A., agrees. I swear this show is a mock-up of that other show. What's it called? I should just ask Paula.
  • Simone Battle wants to sign your boobies! Her style is "a threesome between a cheerleader, a hipster and a drag queen." These are Simone's own words. She sings "When I Grow Up" by the Pussycat Dolls. Now, her voice actually isn't that bad. The problem is the choice of song. L.A. Reid isn't impressed, so she sings something a little bit more suitable for the old man. The crowd likes her, but he doesn't budge. Oh, well, L.A. She's through to the next round! • This is Marcus Canty's last chance before his mother's two-year trial period is up. If this doesn't work, then this recent high school grad has to find a different career. But I think it's safe to say that seeing an arena full of dancing strangers means that Marcus is right where he needs to be. The realization brings him to the ground in amazement. L.A. compares him to Bobby Brown -- pre-Whitney drama and drugs, of course.  marcus-xfactor.jpg
  • Chris Rene comes with a touching story: just out of rehab, young son at home, trying to make something of his life, etc. His original song, "Young Homie," tells his heartfelt story with a touch of urban flair. Don't let this fool you: Chris knows what he's doing. He gets a standing ovation from all four judges and sails on to the next round. chris-xfactor.jpg
  • Stacy Francis is our first tear-jerker story of the season! She's a single mom who used to be in a mentally abusive relationship with a man who said she was too old and not talented enough to make it as a singer. "Look at me NOW!" her audition screams -- not literally, of course. Stacy chose her song ("Natural Woman") perfectly, as her voice harkens back to classic powerhouses like Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston. For once, L.A. and Simon can agree on something: Stacy is arm-hair-raising amazing.

The Bad

  • The first of the groups to be shown on air, Dan and Venita grace the stage. The common rule is to not talk poorly about old people, so I'll say they're cute. It's almost like Johnny Cash and Eartha Kitt. This odd pairing should give an entirely apt mental image and, unfortunately, an idea of what they sound like. It is a big fat "No!" venita-xfactor.jpg
  • Nici Collins had to have been dared to try out. There is no way on this earth that someone agreed with her that her voice was worth listening to. Her nerve to get upset with the judges is just funny to watch. This spawns a montage of more bad acts including T for Two, Darren Michaels and The Sonnets. nici2-xfactor.jpg

The Downright Baffling

  • Siameze Floyd ... Where to start? Well, first of all, he looks like a Rihanna wannabe. This is not a good thing when you're male. Way too tight pants add to his, well, baffling nature. Complete with purple boots and bouncy hair, it may just be a darn good Prince impersonation. It's neither bad nor good: It's just odd. Somehow Siameze makes it through to the next round ... I don't know what else to say. siamese-xfactor.jpg
  • Geo Godley wore his best pajamas to the party. Not only is he dressed to impress, he wrote the song he decided to perform. He continues to sing "I'm a Stud" while dropping his pants and dangling the "X Factor" symbol over his private area. Unfortunately, this isn't enough to keep the audience and Paula from running away.'The X Factor'/FOX
  • Now some may disagree, but The Answer deserves a spot in the Baffling category. First of all, they're a boy band. Yes, they're bringing boy bands back with good voices! The baffling thing about it is, they sang "Rolling in the Deep," made famous by Adele, and added a twist. The guys broke the song up into something sort of resembling Glee's version, but then added the breakdown of Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" into the mix. What?! Who mentions Britney Spears and Adele in the same sentence? The Answer still cruises into the next round.

All in all, this is a well-done show. The pandemonium was well worth it, including the constant commercials, headlines, promotions on the sides of buildings and Paula Abdul performing "Opposites Attract" at block parties. The thing that sets it apart from "American Idol" would have to be the post-audition coverage. Viewers are able to see the performers just as they leave the stage. It's an added touch that allows for a deeper connection with the contestants. Nice. Join the party again tomorrow for the second premiere episode, when the judges continue to look for that one person who has "The X Factor"!

What did you think of Wednesday night's "X Factor" premiere?

"The X Factor" airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.

I can't believe people are actually offended by a pants less guy who was completely covered the entire time.  Granted it was gross, but please--offended?

SHAME ON YOU X FACTOR. THEY COULD HAVE EDITED THAT IDOT THAT EXPOSED HIMSELF. YOUR SHOW IS PRIME TIME AND I'M SURE ALOT OF CHILDREN WERE WATCHING IT. I WILL NOT BE WATCHING THE SHOW ANYMORE  DUE TO IDIOTS LIKE YOU.

I don't know why everyone's getting so excited over that naked guy.  It was definitely ridiculous but I can't base my whole opinion on just that guy.  The show was good.  Lots of good voices.  Simon still has the best comments of any judge on any show.  I have missed Simon and Paula and I'm glad they're back!!  This panel of judges are more interesting than the current American Idol ones.

The show started out great with amazing talent, then went down hill.  I was ready to enjoy some true competition for the final win.  It is so obvious the Simon Cowell is doing the same thing that American Idol does in the qualifications.  With the thousands of people trying out that never even get far enough to see the judges, please explain to me how they had so many on stage last night that should never had made it past the first round of try-outs!!  I know 2 people who tried out for Idol and were told they had to choose someone without talent over them so the judges would have someone to laugh at.  It is obvious that XFactor is pulling the same stunt.   Lost all respect for Simon Cowell and won't watch again.

Really! You chose not to edit that idiots stunt? You obviously thought he would raise the ratings. I'm more disgusted with Simon and Fox for making a very poor decision than I am in the sicko that thought he was entertaining. I will not be watching the rest of the auditions. You obviously have no respect for the thousands of young children that were watching. Shame on you!  By far, The Voice is the talent show to watch!

VERY disappointed......no reason to leave that Xrated idiot on stage for so long.  I changed channel at that point.  Goodbye X Factor.  I expected more from Simon

Why was Geo Godley left on stage so long and why were there no police to arrest him for indecent exposure and gross indecency as there were children in the audience who really didn't need to see proof that some people should be kept confined for the publics' safety (and sanity)
This idiot is listed as a blogger and no doubt used this audition chance to increase visits to his blog and have his 15 minutes of fame (or is that infamy>) not to mention money made from his advertisers due to the number of hits his blog has taken from people who want to figuratively ream his **** out.

Clearly, from the many comments made in this forum, the collective viewership of X Factor's debut were going "WTF were they thinking?" while allowing some jerk to drop trough, and prance about babbling some inane concoction that he so proudly penned.  This is not entertaining, it is an insult to the intellegence of the viewership, in general.  SYCO had best put more thought into what the American public wants to witness on their televisions, lest The X Factor become The X Failure.

Very sad they had to use that naked guy to get more attention to the show, I was enjoying until then. Why they let, or better Why Simon did not stop him? No security, come on my children were watching it, so dissappointed.

Plus, I think singing a big big hit all over classic radio that has been sung over and over in recent "American Idol" seasons, yet you sing it in essentially the same exact arrangement, well THAT's karioke.  Now you may say 'So, I LIKE karioke', but you can't say it's not.  Sorry, as Simon Cowell would say.

Arganaenei: I'm going to guess that you're either one of those people who believe that lyrics don't matter, or a 40-something woman who wants another Susan Boyle to 'win' to make yourself feel young and 'hep.'  The manipulative and self-pitying back story had this woman whining about a bad old man/husband she chose to have kids with--not so long ago, and it was his fault that she was kept from being a big star and feeling good about herself.  THEN, she sings a song about a man, rescuing her and 'making her feel like a natural woman.'  There was a time when feminists would have rightfully cringed at that abrupt non sequitor.  You didn't though.  Why not?

I really loved the show....was so glad to see Simon and Paula along with real talent as judges!!  It was just great and can't wait for tonight.

The RealSlimK...  it's a shame you don't go audition and show all of us what a "real" singer should sound like.

Stacy Francis was not a "karaoke" singer.  The lady has pipes and she knows how to use them.  Chris Rene did well, esp. considering he wrote the song he performed.  Rachel and Marcus were alright.  I really don't know anyone else who "stood out", although The Anser...as it was spelled on screen, was a little weird, but the lead singer is passable.

VERY VERY BAD that they BROADCAST this IDIOT  considering there are minors performing and viewing this show.  BAD Geo Godley wore his best pajamas to the party. Not only is he dressed to impress, he wrote the song he decided to perform. He continues to sing "I'm a Stud" while dropping his pants and dangling the "X Factor" symbol over his private area. Unfortunately, this isn't enough to keep the audience and Paula from running away

Simone Francis is someone to be reckoned with !!  We have NOT heard the last of her. Thinking that Simon Cowell will soon be signing her to his own record label/contract.  Absolutely AWESOME !!   The rest of the show???  YAWNNnnnnn

I don't know about anyone else but this show has a long way to go before it even touches American Idol. In fact it doesn't even come close to THE VOICE which was far more unique and had a better story line. This show format is old news. I could have seen nearly the same thing on America's Got Talent which also sucked this year.

If you don't like it, change the channel!  I loved it.  I love having Simon and Paula back together.  The talent was awesome.  I could have done without the pants dropper, I'm with paula.  He made me sick.  I think it will be hard with so many very talented people to pick just one.  The 13 year old that opened the show was great!!!
