'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Cha-Cha Chopped
Singer Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff eliminated
This week marked the first-ever elimination "dance duel." Jaleel and Gavin faced off with the cha-cha. Gavin admitted that he and Karina learned the cha-cha in one night and that Jaleel is a better dancer than him. Well, you have to give the guy points for honesty.
Jaleel's cha-cha won over the judges unanimously, so Gavin graciously accepted his defeat. He talked about how fun it was for his family to see him on the show and praised Karina's coaching.
It wasn't a huge surprise to see Gavin go, but I'll certainly miss his dry wit and various hats.
Here's a quick look at how the remaining stars did this week:
Maria's sexy salsa was the judges' choice for this week's encore. Derek was so overcome with gratitude that he took his shirt off mid-routine. Shenanigans aside, this was a lively, difficult routine that Maria executed beautifully. Maria has really become an amazing dancer.
Melissa's salsa highlighted her great rhythm, but brought her control issues to the fore. It's hard to be too tough on her since she rehearsed for a week in spite of a neck injury. Melissa had been staging a comeback the last few weeks, but unfortunately this dance put a stop to her streak.
Gladys can't pull off the same fireworks we're seeing from the leaders of the pack, but her samba had its own special magic. Len called the dance "simple but effective," and Bruno praised her for playing to the audience.
William's Argentine tango made for a nice comeback after his disastrous jive last week. His rhythm was very nearly perfect and he and Cheryl got in a couple of jaw-dropping lifts. William was dancing on a stressed ligament this week, so this tango seems downright heroic in retrospect.
Katherine's Argentine tango showed off her incredible strength and precision. Len compared it to a rose: beautiful on the outside, but with thorns underneath. Katherine was inches from a perfect score this week.
Donald's sexy Argentine tango showed off his exceptional rhythm and control. Carrie Ann called the routine divine but Bruno took issue with Donald's "supermodel walk." Bet that's not something NFL champions are used to seeing. Donald has really upped his game the past few weeks, and I can't wait to see what he does in the next round.
This hip-hoppy salsa never let up in terms of difficulty, but Roshon held his own. Bruno praised his timing, but Len counseled Roshon that sometimes "less is more." This was another excellent performance from Roshon.
Jaleel's samba was a great dance: It had rhythm, style and even a little wiggle if you ask Bruno. Jaleel has been a contender all along, but he has yet to take the top spot on the judges' leaderboard. It was heartbreaking to see him drop into the bottom two again, so he'd better put a little extra oomph into next week's routine.
Who won the week: William and Katherine
Who needs to step it up: Melissa
"Dancing With the Stars" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
I can't believe they are making a big deal about Gladys Knight. She can't dance, she isn't dancing around the floor, she is walking. The woman who left last week was far better.
I look at how well Roshon is dancing and his "up" attitude. He is really a keeper--wake up voters, he is dancing better than Melissa.
Jaleel is doing very well, but Roshon is out-dancing him.
ENOUGH ALREADY with this TONGUE SHOVING SOCIETY!
Keep your freakin tongues in your mouth unless you are Gene Simmons from KISS who should have a patent for starting that a hundred years ago or a panting dog in hot weather.
Athletes-celebrities-PUT IT BACK IN YOUR MOUTH ALREADY!
Please show some CLASS- Especially the women or girls.
Life is NOT girls gone wild!
Some people here have it in their mind that Jaleel and Kim have this certain kind of relationship based on one over-sensationalized story...if you paid any attention to anything other than your already close-minded opinion, you would see that they have a very playful relationship...no one ever cried foul when Jerry Springer was grabbing her ****!! Lighten up people...
The thing with Jaleel and Kym seemed to be 'big news' that night but was quickly swept under the rug. Neither of them seem to be talking about it, nor does the guy who intervened(Mark Balas?) or will any time soon. Apparently what happened is Jaleel banged into her knee then said, 'Did *I* do that?"
I have a theory about the voting. Even though Roshon dances towards the middle of the pack at least and Gladys has trouble keeping up, the audience for DWTS is older and will be more likely to vote for a living legend than a Disney 'star' I know it's tough with these Disney stars, once again I have no idea who Roshon Fegan is but news of Gladys Knight even reached under my rock.
Thats what all of Gladys performances have been and she is getting treated better than those that are not playing it "safe and simple".
Thats not fair but then again THIS HAS ALL BEEN PRE ARRANGED.
Gladys is doing a good job--remember, she is not as young as the other contestant. Her style is how it used to be done-not today's way. I'm glad she is in--but she maybe leaving this week.
Gavin was a good sport about his leaving--he even thanked and hugged the judges. The judges wanted him out and so, he is now gone.
I imagine it will be Gladys, next, then Melissa, than Jaleel.
Don't know why Roshon isn't more popular--I really like him. He is good and he is doing very well--but not getting the votes.
Gladys should have left before Sheree Shepherd . losing interest in the show. now not last nite lets get real. don't care if she is an institution or not this is a dance competition
I was surprised to see Jaleel at the bottom two. I thought it was Gladys instead. As far as the dancing goes, I thought Jaleel was better than Gladys who seems like she could hardly move. Should have been Gladys who gets the boot instead.
Gavin's exit is gracious. Gavin seems like a nice guy. Still, I am all for Katherine.
No surprise really. I thought Gavin starte out good. If Gladys isn't next, it is DWTS "business as usual" again.. In addition, I think I am not liking Jaleel. Something about him is rubbing the wrong way. Did you see after their dance on Tuesday where he was grabbing her @ss and she was moving his hand away. Maybe I am slow, but some of his comments are way off the chart and hard to understand. Again, could be me. Nothing much to say. Cannot wait until Monday.
