'The Voice' Recap: Votes and Victories

Ashley De La Rosa and RaeLynn are sent packing from the quarterfinals

By Vinnie Penn Apr 17, 2012 8:06PM

'The Voice'/NBCThe results show began with Christina Aguilera basically having to answer for dumping Jesse Campbell the night before. "I'm no stranger to controversy," the fighter declared, acknowledging message boards, Twitter, and the like. "I do have a strategy."

And after a pointless "Team Blake" performance (if you can call it that) with UK band The Wanted, we got to the results. Christina's crew was up first and, curiously (at least for me), Chris Mann gets to get all Groban for another week. Jermaine Paul was the victor -- according to America -- in the Shelton fold.

Thus, the "pick me" performances began, first with Ashley De La Rosa nervously rocking Gaga's "You and I." Then Lindsay Pavao delivered an emotional "Please Don't Go," getting teary-eyed in the end, and taking Xtina with her. Someday a producer will write the words "basket case" on a Post-It when Pavao is cutting a record in his studio. But, hey, it worked. Christina saved her.

Erin Willett kicked the Adele to the curb for a rousing "Proud Mary" by the time the dust settled and the Bieber fever subsided (he popped out to debut a clip of new video for his latest single "Boyfriend"). Then it was RaeLynn with the Band Perry's "If I Die Young," a bit too safe, if you ask me -- and I'm a RaeLynn fan. So is Blake. But, as the credits rolled and RaeLynn banged into Willett and looked as if she'd seen a ghost, it became abundantly clear ... neither of us just so happened to be tonight.

Something more. Ceelo learn to say something different besides I just thought blah blah blah. you have said the same thing over to each contestant since day one. Blake is like watching condensation form on the outside of a glass. Adam who looks intelligent has proven he is not with one utterance from those thin lips. X is just to big to be wearing those clothes. Believe me X "You are not beautiful no matter what they say".

10 pairs of support hose and a spanx. To much make up, her hair is straw, when she turned her back to the camera you could see three tracks at her scalp through her poorly done hair. The performance was a disaster.  Adams song was cut in several places due to profanity and the hip hop part just stunk up the place. The music is always over powering the contestants which is why we watch the show is to hear them. The contestants are at best mediocre. Thats why I will not be recording or watching this show ever again. Good luck or is the viewing public just that ignorant to call this entertainment?

Christina is an ego-maniac and a lot smarter than see looks.  What better way to convince America that she is a crackerjack coach by keeping the young and inexperienced singers who would most likely improve each performance, then receive laud that she was responsible for their amazing development?  Jesse is the best singer, but at 42 years of age has probably reached his full potential.  Even had Jesse won the competition, Christina will receive more recognition by having her "disciples"  advance.  She is extremely adapt at doing whatever it takes which puts her in the best light.

like others I too never blog OR tweet but Christina, Blake the two contestants that would have had the best chance to win each you eliminated. AMERICA LOVED ASHLEY AND RAY LYN THEY WERE BOTH THE BEST ON YOUR TEAMS DON'T DRINK BEFORE THE SHOW IT LEADS TO VERY BAD JUDGMENT, VERY BAD I WAS SO LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF THEM CAN'T BELIEVE YOU BOTH WOULD GET RID OF TWO OF THE BEST CHANCES TO WIN.

Did anybody noticed that you couldn't vote for Jesse or Jordis? What a rip off, they were eliminated even before people could vote, Raelynn and Chris Mann should have gone! Even Adam was shocked when they anounced the eliminations... It sucks to see that they keep the ones with very little talent, Cee Lo kept Erin for a while, Blake Raelynn and Christina Chris...seriously, is this THE VOICE?? This is totally fixed!!! Hopefuly Adam has more common sense and really picks someone with a great VOICE!!!

Christina you have a remarkable voice and  till now I admired your talent.  I have never blogged before but I'm just so ticked off that u let Jesse go. What were u thinking????   He could of taken it all.  He by far WAS the most talented singer out of everyone.
I've watched every program but I'm DONE.  This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have to admit that it was great to not see her cow tow to the "great Bieber".

She was cool to him and didnt need a slobber kiss so she did the quick cheek insult turn.

Go away little boy blue.

Proves that you dont have to kiss every other celebs **** just because you are one too.

Christina did say she had a plan, get kid of the best team member Jesse to make room for her favorite two girls, but by the public voting for the classical singer, her plan backfired on her.

to (jc 637) with all that money Xtina has, she needs to get some clothes that fit!!  She is beautiful & talented but she couldn't even walk in her performance last night.  That outfit was hanging on by a thread.  Not Sexy at all.  LIPO!!!

What are these judges listening to?  Jesse should have never been kicked off!  The opera sing shouldn't have been saved.  Ashley rocked it, Lindsay got the sympathy vote from Xtina.  When was the last time Xtina put some descent music out, when she was skinny?  I'm not a Xtina hater, I just dont understand her reasoning.  I cant wait to see CeeLo & Adam's teams next week.

in sports, the best coaches were not the best ever  players.  hard for a michael jordan to be a really good basketball coach - who can say he is wrong cuz he did it.  same with singing.

I think Christina owes the world an explanation as to what happened to Jesse.  I am sick of the idol judges and will not watch it if the same ones  are on next year.  Ditto for this group. I like all the others ,but they need another women who is not so full of herself.  The way she treated  Justin last night . Proves my point.

I too question Christina's fashion choices this season. I enjoyed her  performance with  her team but WHAT was she wearing??? Looked like a bathing suit  gone WRONG and if she bent over...then HELLO!!! There were several times this year she had on such low cut tops that I swear I thought I saw a nipple when she was clapping her hands. LOL! Smile

I watched the first season and really enjoyed it.  This season, I'm finding it easier to change the channel.  I thought the concept was to find the best voice.  To do that, as a coach, you should pick the most talented singers and fine tune their skills.  The song choices this year have been bad and many times the music overpowered the singers.  As a coach, if you want your singer to win, you have to give them material that suits them.  When Christina said she had a strategy for kicking Jessie off the team, she made it clear that she's not trying to help these singers win the Voice--she's got her own agenda.

Blake did the right thing booting RaeLynn.  Yes, she's cute and she's got a great voice for a teenager, but she appears to be limited to country music.  My guess is, Blake will have her join his tour like he did his favorite from the first season.  He knows talent when he sees it.

Ashley looked beautiful but I too didn't think her performance was that great. It's hard though to sing when you are about to cry and your voice doesn't want to work.  And RaeLinn  is cute but I haven't liked her lately. She's too young. Too much like a Miley wanna be. There are more stronger singers than her. Erin is AMAZING and has been my fav all along. Still aggravated that  Christina let Jesse go. He had one of the best voices this season.
