Steven Tyler to Nicki Minaj: 'I'm no racist'

Rocker defends himself against current 'Idol' judge

Watch out, TV lovers. This is the week of the viral video.

 

First, Angus T. Jones lashed out at "Two and Half Men" on a religious video, then Rainn Wilson and Craig Robinson of "The Office" parodied him. Now, rocker and former "American Idol" judge, Steven Tyler, is taking the video baton, as it were, to explain why he's not a racist.

The video, which comes courtesy of Canadian talk show, eTalk, features Tyler defending himself against current "Idol" judge Nicki Minaj. The rapper accused Tyler of being a racist because he said she would kick Bob Dylan off the show if he were to audition today.

'Nicki Minaj' '/' FOXUpon hearing Tyler's assumptions about her appreciation of rock music, Minaj tweeted: "That's a racist comment. You assume that I wouldn't have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f--- yourself and worry about yourself babe."

 

Tyler, 64, was a little more eloquent but not especially remorseful when he told eTalk, "I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki ... But I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don't know where she got that out of me saying I'm not sure how she would've judged Bob Dylan."

 

No word yet on if Minaj, 29, has accepted Tyler's video apology-explanation.​ Here's hoping, if she does or doesn't, that she skips the video route.

 

Sigh. Remember when the most controversial thing about "American Idol" was how tight Simon Cowell's T-shirts were? Yeah. Those were the days.

 

Season 12 of "American Idol" kicks off Wednesday, Jan. 16, on FOX.

I think she was waaaay off base, but why does every internet commenter have to be so horrible?  Can't people be civil and disagree anymore?

I recognize that there is a lot of racism in the world.  I also recognize that sometimes it comes in code words and phrases.  I don't much care for Steven Tyler.  But I have read over his comments several times and find no racism in what he said.  Minaj is a nasty little piece of work.  She calls someone racist because she doesn't like the fact that they've called out her bs.  She needs to grow up and start behaving like an adult instead of some self-obsessed little twit.  She isn't talented enough to behave the way she does.  She has delusions of her own importance.

His statement was not racist at all, and he has no reason to apologize. She's an idiot with NOOOOO talent, and has no business judging anyone else. She totally missed his point (no surprise there), but she obviously knows nothing about Steven Tyler, or she would not have called him a racist.  Do your homework Nicki. Maybe you just suck...

I don't feel the remark was racist. I'm a Black female and i'm not a kiss **** Get a dictionary do u know what that is? Get the definition of racist stop acting like a dumb blonde oops ur or the color of the day can u spell Duh.I guest this is the last of American Idol.

I would not have to do comb over. In my end of town, it turns out that makes me a skinhead. I've never said this before but , black people or people of color are more racist than 99% of white people I have known in my life.

She's a piece of crap.  No talent, un-enlighented twenty-something who has no business giving advise about the music industry to anybody, and could never even begin to accomplish what Steven Tyler and Aerosmith has in her lifetime.  I am confused as to why this show hired this dunce.  I am not surprised she called him a racist, that's what somebody like her does when they have no real answer or excuse for their lack of experience, intellect or talent.

**** off Nicki Mc****!!!  This has nothing to do with racism and everything to do with talent.  Tyler is a rock legend that has sustained for 30 plus years.  I remember when Robin Ventura charged the mound against a living legend.  His bench didn't even clear and Ryan kicked his ****.  Unfortunately for you, you don't have Robin's talent to overcome such an obstacle.  You are simply a hot piece of **** in a skin tight suit that sells music now, but will go away after a few years, because you have no real vocal ability or originality.   Move over and let Mariah do her thing.  You shouldn't have been invited to Idol in the first place.   Try porn when this well is dry.  I think you'll do well there.  I would certainly watch it.  Big tits and a fat ****!!!  But, unfortunately, that's all you are Nicki...a whore, media or street side.

If Minaj truly believes what she said, she's as racist as she accuses Tyler of being.  If not, she's nothing more than an attention whore trying to extend her well-past-the-expira​tion-date 15 minutes of fame.  Either way, she just eliminated what slim chance there was of anyone in my household watching so much as 15 seconds of Idol this season.

She is totally whacked to construe Tyler's remarks as a racist remark... what a crazy world it is when almost any comment or statement made is heard through the perception that race is behind it.  Really bizzare of her to see it in this light...

She needs to go away....she is just jeolous because in a couple years no one will care about her and her stupid music.  However, Aerosmith will live on forever.  My parents listened to them, I listened to them and now my children do.  Can you say that about her.

It's not because Dylan is white. It because he can't sing. His style was anything but mainstream. He is truly a star, because he displayed pure talent and not style to become the "name" that he is now. There's something at play here and it certainly isn't racism.
