'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Sherri Heads Home
Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy eliminated in a shocker

This was an incredibly tough -- maybe downright shocking -- elimination. Sherri's grace and enthusiasm for dance made her a favorite early on and seeing her in tears as she was eliminated was heartbreaking. Sherri thanked the producers for letting her "live the dream," and gave a shout-out to her partner, Val. She also encouraged everyone to live their dreams. Sherri thanked everyone and said she had the most amazing time dancing.

Here's a quick look at how the remaining stars did this week:
Last Night on TV: Watch recaps | Video: Watch clips and more
Melissa Gilbert
After a close shave – Melissa suffered a mild concussion after this week's performance round – Melissa is still in the game. Her paso doble actually left Maks with a shoulder injury as well! Nonetheless, it was a good dance. Melissa has great rhythm and this dance really highlighted her stamina. Melissa got off to a rough start in this competition, but she has really brought her A-game the last two weeks. Let's hope the trend continues.
Gavin DeGraw
Gavin's tango was moody and measured, but a bit problematic. He had trouble moving with Karina, though they did pull off an amazing turn-and-roll toward the end of the routine. The judges didn't love this dance, but they did acknowledge how far Gavin has come this season.
Maria Menounos
Maria's tango was a coup, considering that she was dancing on an injured foot. She and Derek moved beautifully together. Bruno was a fan of the staccato action of the routine, which he dubbed "brilliant." Unfortunately, it's not clear how much Maria's injury will affect her performances going forward.
Jaleel White
Jaleel's winning tango was a lot flashier than his other routines have been. He and Kym moved well together and the routine struck a good balance between actual dance and flips and tricks. Jaleel has been strong throughout the competition, but he might need to set aside his cool-as-ice persona if he really wants to win hearts and minds.
Gladys Knight
Gladys' tango was a bit too studied, though, as always, her footwork was very precise. Len said Gladys needs to make her steps a bit quicker and that her posture isn't what it should be. This wasn't Gladys' best performance but everyone has an off week.
Donald Driver
Donald's shirtless paso doble was intense to the nth degree! There were some incredible spins in the routine and Donald kept pace with Peta and made sure his footwork was sharp and precise. The judges loved this one, especially Carrie Ann, who called it one of the most memorable dances of the season.
Katherine Jenkins
Katherine's intense paso doble was a hit with the crowd but wasn't exactly the judges' cup of tea. Bruno commented on a lack of precision and Carrie Ann took issue with the lack of cohesion in Katherine's footwork. Katherine has been No. 1 almost every week, but will she vault back to the top of the judges' leaderboard in the next round?
William Levy
William's rock 'n' roll jive brought out his funny side, though the routine was a bit of a disaster. William got thrown off in the middle of the routine and never quite got his groove back. In judges' critique, Carrie Ann encouraged him to stay focused. Let's hope he listens!
Roshon Fegan
Roshon's Viennese waltz was a real departure from his usual supercharged hip-hoppy routines. Bruno praised his elegant lines and Carrie Ann compared the routine to "watching the climax of a Disney movie." Roshon took a risk this week, and it paid off. I can't wait to see what he does next week.
Who won the week: Donald and Roshon
Who needs to step it up: Gladys
"Dancing With the Stars" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
I had a difficult time understanding the criticism of William's dance considering Cheryl was dancing on top of her high heels after her shoe was partially knocked off during the fumbled move early in the dance. While Cheryl did her professional best to keep up with the pace, the shoe situation threw her timing off just a hair and William was trying his best to adjust to the loss of Cheryl's lead. Of course, unlike the judges, I have the benefit of a DVR and was able to see just when Cheryl's shoe situation began and how it effected their dance.
This Rock week thing is the Biggest waste of time and crap I have seen .. Honestly.
The music NEVER matches the dance ... none of the dances look right .. none of the dancers had real rhythm (even the pro's) and they all looked lost most of the time ... even the judges had no base to score it ...
It should never be repeated ... Dancing and music is suppose to match .. there is waltz, polka and latin music for a reason .... anyone who takes dancing seriously had to find monday a total joke
IMHO, I think Gladys was the weakest of them all this week and should of been the one to go home last night.
This season is fantastic. In all fairness to the entire dance group, I think the audiences vote count should be lessened, in order to take away from them voting for the most popular rather then the individuals dance performance. This is a dance contest and not a popularity contest. Too many good dancers were sent home because they had a much smaller fan base ... not fair at all !!
Let's face it, in the end it is a popularity contest, and certainly not the best dancers. I do think this is the best cast ever. I think Katherine is probably the best, but I don't believe that she is not a dancer in addition to being an opera singer. I doubt Mark would have made her that good. I think it is sad to see anyone go from this group.
My opinion. Sherri needed to go. Why should she have stayed? She was not that good of a dancer. Everyone got a kick out of her because she would go jumping around, shaking her head with that mouth. She is a nice lady, no argument. But you can't keep voting for "she is so funny". Many of us grew up with Gladys. What an amazing icon. But, no big deal in dancing. She should be next. Unless Melissa can't do it. Even the NFL is took a strong stand on concussions. Many players cannot play for weeks until finally cleared.
Surprised about Roshon being one of the bottom 2? Easy explanation. Name 1 disney kid who made. Only (forget her name) the gal who danced with Mark the same time Kirstie Alley danced. She was great. Kyle Massey. Didn't he make 3rd?
In addition, Roshon is to much Hip Hop. Plus he has dance experience. Maybe the viewers are tired of watching that style in Ballroom Dancing? Too cocky? Who knows, but I am not surprised.
Kirstie Alley lost her shoe during the dance and F'Bombed on camera while she struggled to get it back on while Maks improvised. Cheryl losing her shoe is no big deal. They are still good.
Great show this year. What needs to be done is get rid of the non-dancers right away. Then we have a real battle of the dancers. I have been watching since it's been on, and this would be the biggest free for all ever.
Brooke didn't look so good last night.
The voting was really screwy this week! I can't believe Rashon was in the bottom 2. Where are all his young fans? He is one of the best non-professional dancers the show has had in several seasons. I thought Melissa would be going this week-unless some gave her the 'sympathy vote'-but I don't think anyone knew she went to the hospital until well after the show aired. But...Rashon???? Bottom 2???? What gives????
Everydude: What about the lovey-dovey actions between Derek and Maria?? Derek is practically making love to her each week! (Well, there ARE rumors they are a couple....) LOL Most of the pros have their hands and arms all over their partners (and vice versa) during the judges' critiques and when they are 'on the couch'. That's just the way it is!!!
