On Wednesday night, at the end of a string of mixed performances, Jennifer Lopez admitted that viewers are probably just voting for their favorites at this point. Does that mean there's little a contestant can do to fall out of favor with their fans? Will Jessica Sanchez's fans forgive her for wearing that terrible white bodysuit thing during her trio performance? Or does it just mean that underdogs need to give them a reason to vote? Also, as a side note, I simply don't agree with Jimmy's comparison of Colton and Phillip. They are completely different artists, and Colton cares way more about this whole thing than Phillip.

"Idol" alums James Durbin and Jennifer Hudson are performing in this episode, so I will enjoy at least one of those performances! I hope James goes right up to Colton, says, "I invented standing on pianos," then turns to the audience and asks, "What do you guys think?!"

"So, let me fill you in," Ryan says, not filling us in on anything of value. Let me fill you in: Jennifer looks stunning on this night, Randy is still wearing those giant sparkly pins and the group number is back! It is a terrible rendition of P!nk's "Raise Your Glass." These kids look sad and wiped -- except Elise, surprisingly. Look at those "dirty little freaks" up there, pumping their fists to the sounds of overgrown Kidz Bop.
Idolraiseyourglass.jpg

Aah!! The best thing happened. Ryan Seacrest got in at the very end of the group number! He slid in front of the final tableau, legs inexplicably in the air, raising his red Coca-Cola cup above his head. How much did they have to pay him to do that? Whoever had that idea, I love them forever.

I don't even care about the terrible, "Napoleon Dynamite"-inspired Ford music video this week. Ryan Seacrest just made my night. The contestants got some half-hearted celeb tweets. Colton got invited to prom by Katie of Wichita, Kan. Hollie got an invite to spring formal from a surprisingly hot dude. Elise got some feather jewelry for herself and Steven. Ryan made a funny joke about Quinceañera invitations. He is really on a roll again in this episode.

Hollie and Jessica are going head-to-head for the first results of the night. Will Hollie fulfill our expectations by heading for the bottom three, or will Jessica be penalized for singing a song we weren't super familiar with? Jimmy called Hollie stiff and contrived, and called Jessica the effortless, winner of the night. Hollie? Ya burnt. Gosh, Jessica's legs are thin.

Hollie starts a group on the right side of the stage. Jessica starts a group on the left. I know whose group I would prefer to be in on this night. Although, she was wearing that jumpsuit ...

James Durbin is performing a song from his album, which is titled "Memories of a Beautiful Disaster." So overwrought. He's got blond hair now, y'all. Take that, Colton. He probably did it first. He's singing into a vocal modifier, which works for the song but not for the context. Give us the real James! The people demand it! While we're making requests, can I ask that he take off those blinding white sneakers? He screamed a lot. And when he was finished screaming, the contestants clapped slowly, reservedly.

Jamesisblonde.jpg
Oh, my gosh. Of course James Durbin is touring with Evanescence. It's a match made in gothic heellllll yeaaahhh. (That was me screaming into a distorter).

Back to the groups. Phillip and Elise hear results next. Do you think Ryan practices this with his Beanie Babies at home? So many Beanie Babies, I bet. The judges raved about Elise and not so much about Phillip. Jimmy says they're both singer/songwriters and "character singers." Jimmy thinks Phillip will be in the bottom 3 on this night and that Elise might also be, despite being "technically correct." So either of them moving to a group won't answer anything for us. Phillip joins Hollie, and Elise joins Jessica.

Just stopping by on her way to an EGOT, it's Jennifer Hudson! Oh, my gosh. She looks stunning. Weight Watchers is the way! And her hair is fierce. And Ne-Yo? Shut up. This is awesome. Jennifer Hudson is showing off that acting ability in this performance, giving Ne-Yo all kinds of looks. Can she be Whitney Houston in the biopic everyone's discussing?

JHudlikeaman.jpg
Colton and Joshua hit the stage next. So it is Skylar who must choose. Jimmy thinks they both did well, and he's "in" on both of them. Colton still hasn't gotten the ubiquitous standing ovation? What's going on with that? Even Jennifer Lopez can't believe it. "I thought we stood for everyone!"

Joshua stands with Jessica and Elise, which the audience has already determined is the winning group, demonstrated by applause. Colton joins Hollie and Phillip. Uh, oh. Colton and Phillip!

Skylar is up last. Jimmy thinks she is just great, not to be left behind. He was floored and hopes Skylar doesn't get left behind. He predicts Phillip, Elise and Hollie will be the bottom three. Skylar is safe, and Ryan graciously didn't make her choose a group. Oops, I spoke too soon because Ryan asked her to pick the group she belongs with. Skylar said, "No!" and walked away. Good girl, not acknowledging that. He places her with Hollie, Colton and Phillip in a big twist. Joshua, Jessica and Elise are in the bottom three.

Time to use the Save! Jimmy thinks this is wrong, wrong, wrong. But I kind of get it. I wonder if Joshua and Jessica are getting too advanced, too mature, too boring for the viewers. Randy says this is messed up. I only sort of agree.

No one can offer up an explanation (Except me! Let's talk later. Text me or something, Ryan). Joshua is safe. Jennifer looks like she's ready to solve a murder. The person at risk is Jessica Sanchez. The judges freak out. I wish I had gotten a screen cap of Jennifer's face. It was great. I can't even believe it! Before the judges can interrupt with "we will save her!" Ryan hands Jessica the microphone.

The judges go up on stage like this was all scripted. Jennifer grabs the microphone, "Gimme that mic! Of course we're using the Save! Go sit down." I teared up a little. I love when stuff happens like this.
TheSaveisON.jpg
"We are saving Jessica without any doubt," Randy declares. Ryan doesn't like when he's not in control of things. "She is one of the best singers in America. Are you kidding me!" Randy shouts.

"I don't expect anything," Jessica says winningly. She was almost Pia Toscano-ed right outta here! But I love that girl. For filler, Ryan has Jessica sing us out. The top 7 remain for another week!

What a whirlwind five minutes! Did you collapse from all the excitement? Will you suffer from PTSD?

What do you think of Thursday night's results? Did America and the judges get it right?

"American Idol" airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.

TERRIBLE how the judges showed so much favoritism last night. They basically tried crowning her The American idol. That was a slap in the face to the other contestants and to the other singers in America as well. Let the people vote and the save should be removed as they save enough picking who they want all the way down to the wire. I hope Sanchez goes home next week so that the results stay as they should after America voted.

Ok, so was this a "Captain Obvious" moment or what. Clearly the judges comments sway voting. Shannon and Erika two big singers gone before Diandrea and Heejun or whatever that dudes name was,  what a joke!  Both Shannon and Erika  were big voice singers like Jessica, so seen as  her competition. J Lo made it clear from day 1 that Jessica is her pet project and Randy and J Lo  are clearly making comments about the other Big Voice singer that's left  Holly, who would be Jessica's other competition, trying to sway the vote to get rid of her. Clearly America is on to them or does not agree that Jessica is all that. I think the obnoxious way they  handled the save last night( was expecting a J Lo/Randy  orgasms on stage any moment, Steven was just watching the shiny things)   was a slap in the face for many other great singers past and present seasons that were not saved. I think it will  bite them next week, I mean they can't save her again and you know how America is about being told how it will be! Jessica is a good singer but for that kind of support and reaction from the judges I don't see it. Oh and on Colton, come on a mullet for a hair cut, what's up with  that?  I say all the way with Phillip especially since he could care less either way he is going to have it his way!

This is why American Idol has lost its luster, and two of its original panel quit.  It is a popularity vote! Not a singing talent show per se. Personally, it could be a blessing in disguise if Jessica gets voted out. Like Akon said to Jimmy, can we steal her NOW?  She would not be tied to American Idol. She's ready now.  Look what happened to Jennifer Hudson or Chris Daughtry. They did not win but they blossomed after Idol.  She does not fit the contemporary profile of an American Idol if you ask a teen voter, they always go for young male hunks and secondly not the blond blue eyed teen singer.  Do not feel bad for Jessica, there will always be a silver lining in the clouds, she already got the exposure she needed to be hired by record companies out there.

tikiwife, did not think color was an issue here but seems to be the fall back to everything.  I for one am voting for the person that I feel sang the best.  I am not looking at sex, race or religion for the purpose of casting my vote.  I am very tired of seeing posts that always brings one of those factors into what ever the posts are to be about.  If you are that concerned about it, then do something about it instead of making your little remarks here.

I thought what the idol judges did last night was tacky. They could have saved Jessica in a less theatrical way. I just kept feeling bad for the remaining 6 as the judges were basically telling the audience none of them are as good as Jessica.

I disagree. Jessica may have a technically better voice (and I don't even know if that's true) but most people like artists for other reasons. We like someone's persona, how thing sing the song, the originality of their voice and how they deliver a song. Look at how Skylar or Phillip deliver a song--- so much better than Jessica.  Look how Colton connects to the audience and to a song, better than Jessica IMO. And for heaven sakes, what is up with the judges bashing Holly's performances every week? I don't hear pitchiness. I like her song choices.  Not sure where their critiques are coming from.

So Jessica may be technically better? So what. That's not why we buy CDs. America didn't get it wrong no matter how they vote. We like what we like and music is so individual and personal, there's no way you can explain what moves you and what you'll spend your money on.

I agree with the judges panel....what in the world is wrong with you voters....Joshua Ledet is sooo professional and talented....stop acting like control freaks and vote for talent.....this is not about color or the fact that you want to show your strength against the judges....just vote only IF you have an eye and ear for talent....duh

I was shocked to see those 3 in the bottom three!!! voters definitely got it all wrong.  thank God the judges saved her.  hope this isn't repeated next week!!!

Well judges you just shot yourself in the foot - If you would have followed protocall you wouldn't have opened up a can of worms - I thought you were pros but no you had to single one person out and tell her she is the best singer in the US, how do you like that Seline or Beyonce or Barbara S. or Taylor let alone the rest of the contestants - Randy use your head for something besides a place to hang your glasses - Good Luck!

I was under the impression the people were to vote---we spend our money and time to vote, if the judges don't agree they just let them stay!  Also I really tired of Jenne ier using the Idol stage to promote herself. Finally last night R.J. TOLD everyone to vote for the best ,just after he proclaimed Jessica was the best singer in the world. So I think this will be my last year to watch A.I.  I'm really of the Jennifer, Steven and Randy show!

The best three in the bottom three it almost seemed fix to me for ratings.

It looks as if the judges wanted to come of the hero. There is no way that
America got it this wrong for all three of the best contestants. Hm.......

Lisa, Thinker, available, colorado, and sick&tiredofP.C:

I'm going to go way out on a limb here and imagine that you all have yellow hair.  That's fine with me.  I'm told the yellow-haired female 'has more fun'.  But I get the impression that you are feeling somehow cheated that out of the remaining 7 singers, only 5 are white.  er...what is so terrible about sharing?  or to put it another way, how bloody selfish are you people?

I guess last night should have been called "Judges Idol".  Whats with this Colton guy too?  Last year he couldn't make it now this year he can do no wrong?  I don't get the whole thing.   I really hope Hollie wins just to prove a point to these judges that they can't sway people with their opinions anymore!

To me, when the judges are starting to tell us how to vote, that is plane wrong.

If they want to use the save then so be it and base it on your opinion but do not go off on your viewers and the way they voted.

To me Holly has been getting the raw deal from the judges over the last few weeks and that irks me.

Well i guess we dont have to watch anymore ... .. It is a voting competitiion. The thing i dont get is  they tell you your great , change this and then your not so great.. Dont sing that , dont do that.  The funniest thing is  how  Randy keeps saying Colton ( i thik that is his name) is so original and then last week after his performance he said he stole the  the arrangement from someone else... They confuse me so much. Just let them sing.... Usually when a artist  strays always from whom they are they  arent very good.... Everyone  is telling Hollie she has done  bad but they kept telling her to change when she was good and  she was the best.. Listen to them sing...... Elise , Hollie,,  really have got the best talent  and range... I wont watch anymore because i think the judges are terrible... After last night if  you  are not Jessica you should probably realize your doomed.. Its not what we think, they  try to persuade you.......Let them sing... and  wow  lets not forget these are  people whom are taking your advice judges and then you destroy them.. well done.. You showed alot of respect last night for all the talent  on the show last night.. Way to go..... Way to go Jlo..... I guess we all got to wear your shoes... Steven .... , i am glad your wearing Andrew Charles, cut you got to get back to  your roots....... this is not your gig. Randy , i am glad you  try to be like Simon but your not.......I am thinking  x. factor and the voice..... ...  I hope Hollie wins.... you may think she isnt good but man,, she  tackles the hardest songs and  her range is crazy..... ...I  think it is rigged anyways

MNTNHEAVEN3, well supposedly America's vote Does count.  If everything's on the up and up, the judges have used their one save of the season and whoever gets 'voted out' next week is gone.  But if it's the fix indicated by the high school judging dramatics(tm) then the idol producers got what they wanted and will continue to stage things as they see fit.

The judges definitely did the right thing in saving Jessica Sanchez. Her stellar performance Wednesday night should have not gone unnoticed nor unappreciated. It showed versatility, maturity and was downright brilliant!

To Jessica, Keep doing what you are doing Girl!

To the judges, Keep on doing the RIGHT thing !
