Judges save Jessica Sanchez from elimination in shocking results show

On Wednesday night, at the end of a string of mixed performances, Jennifer Lopez admitted that viewers are probably just voting for their favorites at this point. Does that mean there's little a contestant can do to fall out of favor with their fans? Will Jessica Sanchez's fans forgive her for wearing that terrible white bodysuit thing during her trio performance? Or does it just mean that underdogs need to give them a reason to vote? Also, as a side note, I simply don't agree with Jimmy's comparison of Colton and Phillip. They are completely different artists, and Colton cares way more about this whole thing than Phillip.

"Idol" alums James Durbin and Jennifer Hudson are performing in this episode, so I will enjoy at least one of those performances! I hope James goes right up to Colton, says, "I invented standing on pianos," then turns to the audience and asks, "What do you guys think?!"

"So, let me fill you in," Ryan says, not filling us in on anything of value. Let me fill you in: Jennifer looks stunning on this night, Randy is still wearing those giant sparkly pins and the group number is back! It is a terrible rendition of P!nk's "Raise Your Glass." These kids look sad and wiped -- except Elise, surprisingly. Look at those "dirty little freaks" up there, pumping their fists to the sounds of overgrown Kidz Bop.
Idolraiseyourglass.jpg

Aah!! The best thing happened. Ryan Seacrest got in at the very end of the group number! He slid in front of the final tableau, legs inexplicably in the air, raising his red Coca-Cola cup above his head. How much did they have to pay him to do that? Whoever had that idea, I love them forever.

I don't even care about the terrible, "Napoleon Dynamite"-inspired Ford music video this week. Ryan Seacrest just made my night. The contestants got some half-hearted celeb tweets. Colton got invited to prom by Katie of Wichita, Kan. Hollie got an invite to spring formal from a surprisingly hot dude. Elise got some feather jewelry for herself and Steven. Ryan made a funny joke about Quinceañera invitations. He is really on a roll again in this episode.

Hollie and Jessica are going head-to-head for the first results of the night. Will Hollie fulfill our expectations by heading for the bottom three, or will Jessica be penalized for singing a song we weren't super familiar with? Jimmy called Hollie stiff and contrived, and called Jessica the effortless, winner of the night. Hollie? Ya burnt. Gosh, Jessica's legs are thin.

Hollie starts a group on the right side of the stage. Jessica starts a group on the left. I know whose group I would prefer to be in on this night. Although, she was wearing that jumpsuit ...

James Durbin is performing a song from his album, which is titled "Memories of a Beautiful Disaster." So overwrought. He's got blond hair now, y'all. Take that, Colton. He probably did it first. He's singing into a vocal modifier, which works for the song but not for the context. Give us the real James! The people demand it! While we're making requests, can I ask that he take off those blinding white sneakers? He screamed a lot. And when he was finished screaming, the contestants clapped slowly, reservedly.

Jamesisblonde.jpg
Oh, my gosh. Of course James Durbin is touring with Evanescence. It's a match made in gothic heellllll yeaaahhh. (That was me screaming into a distorter).

Back to the groups. Phillip and Elise hear results next. Do you think Ryan practices this with his Beanie Babies at home? So many Beanie Babies, I bet. The judges raved about Elise and not so much about Phillip. Jimmy says they're both singer/songwriters and "character singers." Jimmy thinks Phillip will be in the bottom 3 on this night and that Elise might also be, despite being "technically correct." So either of them moving to a group won't answer anything for us. Phillip joins Hollie, and Elise joins Jessica.

Just stopping by on her way to an EGOT, it's Jennifer Hudson! Oh, my gosh. She looks stunning. Weight Watchers is the way! And her hair is fierce. And Ne-Yo? Shut up. This is awesome. Jennifer Hudson is showing off that acting ability in this performance, giving Ne-Yo all kinds of looks. Can she be Whitney Houston in the biopic everyone's discussing?

JHudlikeaman.jpg
Colton and Joshua hit the stage next. So it is Skylar who must choose. Jimmy thinks they both did well, and he's "in" on both of them. Colton still hasn't gotten the ubiquitous standing ovation? What's going on with that? Even Jennifer Lopez can't believe it. "I thought we stood for everyone!"

Joshua stands with Jessica and Elise, which the audience has already determined is the winning group, demonstrated by applause. Colton joins Hollie and Phillip. Uh, oh. Colton and Phillip!

Skylar is up last. Jimmy thinks she is just great, not to be left behind. He was floored and hopes Skylar doesn't get left behind. He predicts Phillip, Elise and Hollie will be the bottom three. Skylar is safe, and Ryan graciously didn't make her choose a group. Oops, I spoke too soon because Ryan asked her to pick the group she belongs with. Skylar said, "No!" and walked away. Good girl, not acknowledging that. He places her with Hollie, Colton and Phillip in a big twist. Joshua, Jessica and Elise are in the bottom three.

Time to use the Save! Jimmy thinks this is wrong, wrong, wrong. But I kind of get it. I wonder if Joshua and Jessica are getting too advanced, too mature, too boring for the viewers. Randy says this is messed up. I only sort of agree.

No one can offer up an explanation (Except me! Let's talk later. Text me or something, Ryan). Joshua is safe. Jennifer looks like she's ready to solve a murder. The person at risk is Jessica Sanchez. The judges freak out. I wish I had gotten a screen cap of Jennifer's face. It was great. I can't even believe it! Before the judges can interrupt with "we will save her!" Ryan hands Jessica the microphone.

The judges go up on stage like this was all scripted. Jennifer grabs the microphone, "Gimme that mic! Of course we're using the Save! Go sit down." I teared up a little. I love when stuff happens like this.
TheSaveisON.jpg
"We are saving Jessica without any doubt," Randy declares. Ryan doesn't like when he's not in control of things. "She is one of the best singers in America. Are you kidding me!" Randy shouts.

"I don't expect anything," Jessica says winningly. She was almost Pia Toscano-ed right outta here! But I love that girl. For filler, Ryan has Jessica sing us out. The top 7 remain for another week!

What a whirlwind five minutes! Did you collapse from all the excitement? Will you suffer from PTSD?

What do you think of Thursday night's results? Did America and the judges get it right?

"American Idol" airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.

I think the judges wasted that save! Jessica wasn't good last night and I wasn't impressed with Joshua or Elise either. I think America got it right though I wouldn't have been surprised to see Hollie in the botton three. Hollie just doesn't have the stage presence you'd expect at this point in the competition but Jessica doesn't either. And I don't understand the raving over Elise but then I am not a fan of the raspy vocal. I am rooting for Skylar and Colten so I'm glad they are safe!

I really think that the American people better regroup on their voting..

I agree with Randy, Jennifer and Steven, people need to vote for the best singer of the show. The three they chose to eliminate was like Jimmy said all wrong...

If this keeps up I will no longer be watching this show...

America voted!   Isn't that what the judges always say.   The reaction the judges had and what Randy said sure was not very favorable about the other 6 contestants.   Jessica has a good voice but America likes the other singers better.   If the judges don't like the way America votes then get new judges.  American Idol is suppose to be what America likes not what the judges want to jam down your throat.  Good Luck to all the contestants.   America, vote for who you like not who the judges want to win.

I feel america got it right.  I really like colten and skylar and phillip.  I don't know what the judges are thinking raving over joshua and jessica.  They may like but I vote for the ones I would like to here more of not fast forward through.

Here's what I think happened.  Last night the judges all made it clear that Holly should go home.  Every poll I've seen said that Holly was going home.  So all of Holly's supporters did what we all do when our favorites are targeted: we vote for them--repeatedly.  Meanwhile, everybody else thinks their favorites are safe because the entire world knows Holly is going home.  Now that Jessica is in the crosshairs, odds are pretty good she is not one of the two going home next week (Holly and Elise would be my guess).  The judges reaped what they sowed last night when they hammered Holly and only Holly, making it crystal clear who they wanted sent home.

This was So wrong for the judges to go up to the stage and save Jessica like that. It's obvious they have selected the next "American Idol". I thought this was suppose to be done by the viewers not them.  I was so ready to help Jessica pack her bags. She really isn't that great. Colton is the greatest and poor Holly did such a great job and all the judges did was shut her down. I thought she gave a perfect performance. And has such an Angelic voice. So people let's do it again next week. Lets get jessica out and on her way home where she belongs.

Jessica is a great singer but her song choice was not good last night - I couldn't connect with it.  I think Hollie is the weakest contestant at this point and was surprised she wasn't in the bottom 3 tonight.

American Idol's judges have become irrelevant. Instead of being judges who are there to provide constructive criticism and help the contestants they have become propaganda agents telling America who to vote for. What a sham this once great show has become. I long for the days of Simon Cowell.

For the last two seasons, the judges have become more involved it seems in picking and relaying to the masses who is worthy of staying in the competition and who needs to go.  I thought it was up to America? Not anymore! In the last couple of weeks the Randy, Jennifer and Steven show have shown their biases by slighting the talented Hollie every week although she has delivered very good performances and have done cart wheels and have had standing ovations for Joshua and Jessica for simply breathing into the microphone.  But tonight took the cake when they showed their hands by saying they were going to save one of the three who were in the bottom. And when Jessica was the one to voted out they rushed to her side not even allowing her to sing. What a travesty.  What about the other contestants? Randy said that "America has to vote for the best". The best according to him? Is he the final arbiter of the competition? NO, he is not! America is. And America voted and put Joshua, Jessica and Alise (sp?) in the bottom 3. Why? Because maybe America was sending a message to the judges, saying, "You can't tell me who to vote for!" Or maybe America has tired of those seemingly perfect performances of Joshua and Jessica. Whatever the reason, I believe tonight's display of bias and favoritism by the judges to be appalling and a slap in the face of the other contestants who have given their all each week too. The choice is America's, not Randy's, not Jennifer's and certainly not Steven, who believes everyone is " just beautiful". If they want to vote they certainly can text, call or go online like the rest of us. But don't tell me who to vote for anymore!!!

I tried to vote but the lines were always busy--for over an hour.

HELLO AMERICANS !!!!!!!!!!!   THIS IS NOT A TEST !  THIS IS A REALITY SHOW AND WHEN IT GETS TO THE POINT WHERE WE ARE IN THIS COMPETITION IT IS TIME TO STOP VOTING FOR YOUR FAVORITE PERSON BECAUSE OF PERSONAL LOOKS OR WHAT CLOTHING THEY ARE WEARING.  After judging competitions just like "American Idol" for 29 years, you have to listen to their VOCAL talent, (did she take control of the stage) their STAGE PRESENTATION, AND THE ABILITY TO GET THE AUDIENCE FEELING THE WORDS OF A PARTICULAR SONG  -- sing the words as if he/she had the words happen to them .

After listening to comments last night and tonight, you seem to think that both Joshua and Jessica (just do nothing but shout into the microphone) .THAT IS  A STUPID STATEMENT AND FULL OF CRAP--PROVING YOUR VOTING IS FOR A PERSON NOT ONE WITH THE MOST TALENT

COME AMERICA - WAKE UP -  LET THE MOST TALENTED PERSON WIN THIS COMPETITION--After tonites results, voting for the most talented,  DID NOT HAPPEN !!! Hollie, Elise, been on the bottom 3 1-2 times.

AS RANDY STATED --- COME ON AMERICA, COME ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The judges should be ashamed of themselves.  Their rude comments had to make the other six feel like crap.  Jessica got voted out because not everyone

is crazy about her voice - I didn't like her song last night at all. But, now the

save is gone and America can pick who they like and the judges can keep

their comments to themselves.  Maybe they will figure out we don't really

care what they think.  We have our favorites, the ones we would spend the

money to listen to.  They need to listen to the voting audience and keep

their rude comments to themselves.  I'm so glad Holly wasn't in the bottom

three this week.  I thought her song was great and she finally had

connection with the audience.  My favorites are Skylar and Colton!  That's

who I am voting for.  It's time for Jessica and Elise to go home.

 TEXAS HORNS

If anything there should be more judges being in the middle of the competition.

As you saw tonight, one of or maybe the best vocalist almost got sent home.

This in where u can tell that America voted for their "favorite"

NOT the individual(s) that have the "true and natural talent"

I THINK YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL BEING SO DISRESPECFUL OF STEVEN, JESSICA AND RANDY

I have to agree with all the comments about the judges being so bias against singers like Holly. Holly may not be the over powering singers like screaming Joshua or Jessica but she is a very good singer. The judges  make so many negative comments on Holly and its really starting to eat at her on the stage. That's why imo, her stage present is like Joshua or Jessica's. The only thing Steve or J Lo may say about Holly is, "you look beautiful." The judges every week make bias comments on Holly so America will vote her off the show. This show I agree is getting really bias by the judges because they want who they think should win. They (judges) did the same bias against Haley last season until people voted her off by the bias remarks by the judges. This the the only reason why now the judges have a save is because AI are co-bias with the judges to help keep who they want to stay and win. I am all for voting the same way and have Jessica and Joshua in the bottom three.

Ah, the wonderful voting system for ai is at it again. Seriously, will they change the system already? Come on, we all know the teenage girls only vote for the guys because of how they look, let's be honest. And they are jealous of the girls, like jessica, that's why all the girls get picked off one by one on every season. It doesn't matter if you can sing, clearly. That's why the show has become a joke, and probably why simon ultimately left. Jessica and Colton are still my definite favorites, they are my final 2 pick. But, I'm sure, america will make sure that doesn't happen! The best vocalist never is the winner.

What do you think of Thursday night's results? Did America and the judges get it right?

1. Yes, the results are what we the voters wanted!

2. The judges are so bias against anyone besides Joshua or Jessica. There should be no saves at all. Let the voters do it on how THEY think should be the next AI not the judges!

I thought Holly was gone for sure. I thought Colton was once again boooooring. They are my choose to go next week.

I was very surprised to see Joshua and Jessica in the bottom three. Joshua is my favorite, and Jessica can sing! Such talent for a 16 year old! People might not have liked her song choice Wednesday night, but they've heard her sing other numbers which were great. I'm thinking perhaps voters thought she would be "safe" and didn't need their vote because of her talent and performances, and maybe voted for some of the others, thus putting her on the bottom. I think the judges pretty much call it like it is, but I do feel like they and Jimmy Iovine are being a little harsh on Holly.
