The Rock Is Looking for a 'Hero'

The man otherwise known as Dwayne Johnson to launch new reality series

By Kenny Herzog Apr 17, 2012 11:01AM
Anyone who's smelled what the Rock's been cooking of late might have noticed the faintest whiff of global adventure-seeking. The pro wrestler-turned-actor (and, when opportune, still pro wrestler), best known these days as movie star Dwayne Johnson, has announced that he and "Office" producer/former NBC co-chair Ben Silverman will comprise reality TV's newest tag team.

Bing:
More on "Hero" | Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

Johnson will be executive producing and starring in "The Hero," a worldwide competition series that pits teams on three different continents and has them endure various physical and psychological trials. Johnson also reveals that viewers will play a hand in determining contestants' fate via social media. Or, as the Samoan he-man describes it himself, “'The Hero' will bridge the digital and physical world on the small screen in an unmatched fashion." Whatever that means.

Sounds to us like bits of "Amazing Race" and "The Challenge" tossed into a conceptual blender, with an added mean streak of judgmental audience interaction for good measure. Or, to look at it another way, "American Idol" with an obstacle course.

No word yet on what network will endorse this "Hero," though perhaps SilverRock will work with whomever can withstand the People's Elbow.

Another reality show??? Cant these idiots think of anything new for Television? As for the Rock, either stay with Wrestling like you told your WWE fans, or do some serious movies

I like Dwayne Johnson and have enjoyed some of his "family friendly" movies with my Kids. I don't think he's arrogant or unappreciative of his career and to me he seems like a genuinely sincere person. The people b*tching about him "running his mouth" and "talking crap" apparently forget that it's typical wrestling promotional tactics so your points are a non-issue to me.

That being said...I rode on the reality TV train when it first started and now I'm with RightToMyOpinionBub...I got off awhile ago and am a much happier person watching TV programs that I enjoy that don't have an ounce of the reality TV label to them and that have honestly NOTHING to do with reality...so no offense to The Rock or his crew but I won't be watching either.

Wow, you guy's are basing this show on The Rock's wrestling character?  That's just stupid.

Other than that, the show sounds like it could be cool.  Like The Amazing Race, as stated, and Fear Factor.

I will not waste my time. Just another nonactor looking for exposure. Reality TV

is a complete drag. Kim Kardashian is not attractive to be a real TV star; Smurf-

ette would look far more superior.  And she was a cute cartoon character from

a popular TV show from the 1980s.  Dwyane "Rock" Johnson did have one

decent movie in "The Game Plan", but that was just another I-am-a-single-

parent-who-unknowingly-had-child film in 2007.

I have no interest in "celebs" doing reality shows.   Nuf said.

Wow.....I hate to be the one to tell ya, but Wrestling is staged. Oh yeah, Theres no Santa Claus either. Lol... All joking aside the Rock is cool, but the show sounds lame.

i have never liked the rock and dislike him a lot more since he ran his month for a month or so before actual wrestling. the rock sucks. john O. is a piece of work. i can't believe he can work more than 3 minutes for any company. i have watched wrestling for more years than i care to recall. however, now with john O. in total charge i pretty much have stopped watching wrestling.

Well, he can't act so maybe this is a perfect niche for him.

I dont watch reality TV. None of it.

Networks, if you want my families viewership, give us well written stories. Because we are not watching crap like this, count on that.

No offense to the rock or the people in reality TV.

Is there no escaping this egomaniac? Not a huge wrestling fan, but my boys are and I was absolutely disgusted by  the c**p coming out of his mouth in the months leading up to Wrestlemania. It's a shame that his #1 fan is himself.
