'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: Hardly a Fairy Tale Ending
Brandy and Maks' elimination sends shock waves through the crowd
If you missed this week’s results show you might have done yourself a favor.
There were audible gasps and boos from the audience as Brandy was cut from the show. The pop singer looked terrified as she stood onstage waiting to hear the results and absolutely heartbroken after they were announced.
When Brooke asked her how she felt about her elimination, Brandy simply said "I don’t know how to feel." Her partner Maks was a little more outspoken, "I love that the show represents the people’s choice."
Judge Bruno Tonioli was less diplomatic. He stood up and begged people to vote more often.
As the credits began to roll so did the tears. Host Tom Bergeron called tonight’s elimination "the cruelest cut" and I have to agree.
Dried your own tears yet? Then here’s a rundown of our three finalists’ performances this week:

Jennifer Grey
Jennifer and Derek had themselves a perfect week! They debuted both a spirited, sexy, totally fluid cha cha and perhaps the best waltz the show has ever seen. It was thoughtful and measured, just beautifully articulated. Even if Jennifer doesn’t win next week, she sure has earned her place in the "DWTS" Hall of Fame.
Kyle Massey
Kyle and Lacey had their best week ever, beating Brandy out for second place on the leaderboard. Their samba set a breathless pace, but Kyle somehow made it look easy. His rhythm was right on, his footwork was the best I’ve ever seen it, his hips were perfect and his arm extension was great. Kyle and Lacey’s Argentine tango was almost as energetic as their samba. Len praised Kyle’s enthusiasm, but didn’t have too much to say about the dance itself. Sometimes numbers speak louder than words, eh? Kyle may be the underdog heading into the Finals, but I have faith in him!
Bristol Palin
Bristol and Mark’s paso doble was beautifully, intricately choreographed, and struck just the right mood. I believe the word is smoldering. The pair’s waltz was equally well-done: the technique was excellent throughout, but a particularly well-executed series of spins about halfway through the routine really stood out. Did anyone really expect Bristol to make it to the finale? No. But if she turns in performances like these next week, she’s got a real shot.
The reason Bristol is still on the show is not because of her dancing (but you can't call what she does dancing). The judges have done a very poor job giving out marks this season. They are not consistent in their criticism of each dancer. In the past, once you've reached the halfway point, the expectations of taking on more difficult steps were required. Not once did I hear them say Bristol did not add a more challenging routine to her performance. She dances like a robot with a lead foot. I hope Brandy knows what a talent she is and the MOOSE still on the show has absolutely no business being there. You watch, the MOOSE from Alaska will win the trophy. If this happens, I hope the audience will stand up and BOO, because that is the only prize she deserves.
I agree with dburnett, Bristol Palin should never have been on DWTS, to begin with
she is not a star and she can't dance. Her big claim to fame was getting pregnant.
There are many girls who have become unwed mothers, and have never been asked to be on the show. Wonder how much Mommie Dearest had to do with her being asked? I will no longer be watching such a fixed show.
This show has too much bias up front and the whole thing should change. They don't like the voting thing then they should take the weight away from the voters.
THIS IS A POPULARITY CONTEST!!!!!!!!!!! And Maks get over yourself---you are not as good as Derek or Marc. You might dance a bit better but they have better choreography.
Bottom line is don't complain---but VOTE.
It turns out that the appropriaate name for the show would be, at best, Dancing With The Celebrities. Bristol is a lovely young lady making a good thing of a difficult life situation, but she's not a star. Secondly, Folks, she cannot dance. She is hardly better than in the beginning, which makes her barely watchable. Even Mark (sp?) looked defeated, that is until the judges gave her inflated scores last week. What were they thinking? Mark totally "carries" her along every week. Has anyone else noticed that she seems to be the only one who hasn't lost any weight or gained any muscle tone, much less picked up her feet or developed any skills or bounce? She hardly moves! I thought she'd be gone after a week or so, but I guess I didn't realize the power of the Tea Party. It can't be her talent, or her "star" base, or even her meager improvement, nor can there be that many unwed mothers or happily abstaining teenagers voting, so it has to be the Tea Party (and I have nothing against them). It's time that the ones who can DANCE, as in Dancing With The Stars, get their due. Bristol isn't the first one in this position, but it's time that talent is rewarded and not voted off. FYI I think Brandi was a singer and not a dancer before starting this show. You're lovely, Bristol, but improved or a dancer you're not. There must be an agenda with the judges, because they know this. Nines?? Just below tens?? If it sounds like I still respect the show, I don't. I just watch now for the good dancers, by recording the show and SKIPPING THE COMMERCIALS. Are you listening sponsors? Maybe this is a popularity contest afterall.
After everyone settles down....Would anyone really have remembered Brandi if
she had won the contest....yes, for a while. But by losing....and garnering the
wide sympathy vote, her career will take off.....Just watch and see. As for Bristol
my comments still are: YOU ROCK SWEETIE....KEEP ON DANCING...AND ALTHOUGH
YOU WON'T WIN, YOU HAVE DONE A VERY GOOD JOB ON THE SHOW.
Since when does being an unwed mother make you a star???? Bristol Palin can't dance PERIOD. She is not a celebrity. She should have been voted off within the first two shows. As soon as the better dancers started getting voted off the show, it became clear where this show was headed. This show is called Dancing with the Stars, not the Bristol Palin show. No one had even heard of this girl until she came up pregnant during Mommies political campaign. Now she is an advocate for abstinance. She should have been practicing abstinance instead of practicing teen sex. This girl is a joke and not even a funny joke.
Jennifer Grey, nor Bristol Palin should win
the DWTS trophy. Jennifer Grey has
much past dance experience, and Bristol lacks
talent, and isn't a "star."
DWTS should consider new rules, or lose it's viewers.
Bristol should graciously bow out of DWTS,
even if she has to fake being sick. Bring back
Maks and Brandy!
Bristol should have some dignity, and self respect.
If she wants a trophy, then earn it..........!
The judges shouldn't show favoritism on the show either.
Some of their uncalled for negative comments to the dancer
instructors, also influences viewer voting.......
Talent doesn't win the DWTS trophy, popularity does.
I watched every DWTS show this season...and I will be watching the finals. I
took the time to vote every time and yes, I voted for Bristol. Why, because she
deserved my votes. She turned in two very beautiful performances this week.
Combined with her good performances were the votes from people like me who
appreciated that a lovely young woman with grace and guts was able to turn
herself into a dancer...and that she has done. God bless her. I wonder what the
comments would be if Brandi had been on the stage against Kyle at the end and
then was voted off. Like Bristol, Kyle is another underdog who has worked hard
and turned in some fine dance performances.....But, would there have been the
snide comments if he had been the one "perceived" to have eliminated Brandi....?
I think not. DWTS would have been smarter to have set up the elimination a
different way as I have suggested above.
