'Dancing With the Stars' Recap: 'Friends' With Benefits
Brandy and Maks take top honors in TV-themed round
Welcome to the first-ever "DWTS" TV-themed week. Why do we have to have all these theme weeks? No idea. I can’t be the only one who watches this show to see dancing, right? There have been quite a few shenanigans this season: David Hasselhoff’s scary sex dance, Michael Bolton’s feud with Bruno and Florence Henderson’s dirty, dirty rumba -- so tonight was sort of tame by comparison.

Not tame in a bad way, especially since there’s a new sheriff in town. Brandy managed to beat Jennifer on the judges’ leaderboard! Her quickstep was show-stopping!
To find out who wore a monkey suit, read on:
Brandy
Brandy and Maks’s "Friends"-themed quickstep was a huge hit with both the audience and the judges. (Though Brandy’s butt-bowed costume belongs in the bridesmaid dress Hall of Shame.) Her footwork was amazing, her rhythm was perfect and she seemed really into it. Maks did a nice job choreographing a dance that took advantage of Brandy’s high octane style, even if he did scowl through the whole peppy routine. Len called this dance Brandy and Maks’s best, and I have to agree with him!
Score: 27/30
Florence Henderson
I don’t know that anyone ever tangoed to the "Brady Bunch" theme before Florky took it on. And, ummmmm, there’s a reason for that. It was just a weird song. The tango itself was great but Florence herself commented on what a tricky song she was dealt. The judges were sympathetic, and praised Florence’s much-improved footwork. (Also, in perhaps the weirdest moment in "DWTS" history, Len said “I wish I was a sexy senior” during his critique.)
Score: 21/30
Kurt Warner
His "Bewitched"-themed quickstep was quite the coup. The jaunty music suited Kurt’s style. His timing was perfect, his footwork was very good and he totally sold the routine. It was nice for Kurt to score a win with the judges after two weeks of disappointing feedback. Let’s hope he can keep in their good graces next week.
Score: 24/30
Audrina Patridge
The rumba is a passionate, sensual dance and even though Audrina had beautiful lines this week she was missing that strange mixture of courage and vulnerability that makes for the perfect rumba. (Though the theme song from "The Hills" seems like a tricky choice for a rumba!) This might not have been her best week, but Audrina is still a frontrunner in this game.
Score: 23/30
Kyle Massey
Kyle and Lacey’s "Charlie’s Angels" foxtrot was a lot of fun to watch. Kyle held his own with lovely Lacey and her crazy Farrah wig, and that’s saying something. The crowd loved it. The judges ... well, they were pretty split. Bruno complained about too many disco moves, Carrie Ann was all "whatever, disco fever hooray!" Len, do you need me to tell you? He went into full-on Eeyore mood. Then he gave Kyle a 5.
Score: 20/30
Rick Fox
I’m officially impressed. Rick and Cheryl got dealt a weeeeird song, the "Hill Street Blues" theme, and pulled off quite the sexy rumba. Rick’s lines were amazing. He just went for it, hips, arms, everything! This has been a ladies on top season, but Rick seems poised for a leap into the top three.
Score: 24/30
Bristol Palin
Bristol has had trouble with confidence throughout the competition and I think coming out in monkey suit for tonight’s "Monkees"-themed jive helped her in some strange way. Unfortunately, as Bruno noted, when Bristol’s confidence went up her commitment to technique went out the window. The judges gave her straight 6s, which could knock her clean out of this thing.
Score: 18/30
Jennifer Grey
This foxtrot to the "Married With Children" theme was fun, though is there anyone in the world less Al Bundy-like than Derek? It had a very his 'n' hers Derek and Nicole feel to it which I didn’t love. Jennifer does better when she goes a little sexy. I was, however, impressed by her circle kicks. It’s hard to believe she’s almost 50.
Score: 25/30
Who won over the judges? Brandy, Jennifer, Kurt and Rick
Who won over the crowd? Kyle, Rick and Kurt
Who needs to step it up? Bristol, Kyle (at least according to Len) and Florence
Brandy is so graceful, she deserved at least one 10.
Kyle has so much personality, very entertaining.
Rick is doing great, he just needs to step up the chemistry,
Cheryl's perfect partner was Gilles, their chemistry was unbelievable.
Audrina is doing so good, but there is no chemistry, she is an actress, she should have no trouble showing passion and romance.
Jennifer and Derek are excellent, he is an incredible talent.
TOM is such an entertaing host!
Monkey suit vs feather duster - Bristol DANCED in the monkey suit! The feather duster was a prop that prevented Jennifer from actually doing any dancing during that portion of the song. That's what Len objected to. He wants the good dancers to dance the whole song. Props are for people who need to distract from their dancing, or shorten the dancing time.
I frequently root for the underdog, the non-dancer who is showing improvement from week to week (like Kurt) and think Bristol is a nice girl, but it's time for her to go home.
I keep hoping to discover that Audrina has some emotional depth beneath the surface, but so far she might as well be Dancing Barbie. Decent technique, no heart.
My daughter & I didn't agree with the judges at all last nite on many of the scores. Britol should have gotten a higher score than Kyle, she did a lot better than he did. We both think Kyle, Bristol & Florence will be in the bottom 3 with Kyle going home. We think the final 3 will be Audrina, Brandy & Jennifer
I can't believe Carrie Ann and Len did not like Jennifer's dance. I actually liked it a lot like Bruno. It was enjoyable and her moves were smooth!
I also can't believe that Carrie Ann and Len like Bristol's instead. Bristol cannot even move !!! It was so stiff.
So, she should go home.
At least, I gave Bristol credit because if you compared her with awful Kate Gosselein from last year, then Bristol did a better job even though she is stiff.
Bristol needs to just go home. Seems a nice young girl but no dance talent. Just the facts.
Derek and Jennifer Grey are by far the best. I love them.
The judges are ridiculous. Len is such a hypocrite. You just never seem to know when he'll like something or not. And I'm tired of him complaining about the themes because he takes it out on the dancers.
Carrie Ann drives me up the wall with her stupid lifts. Give it a rest you idiot! And she runs hot and cold with Jennifer and Derek too. I thought their performance was outstanding and it's her loss if she can't judge fairly. But we need to send Bristol packing.
