Can Jennifer Grey Handle 'Dancing'?

The competition's frontrunner may be buckling under pressure

By MSN TV Oct 19, 2010 11:41AM

Jennifer Grey is definitely the frontrunner to win this season's "Dancing With the Stars" mirror ball trophy, but all that pressure may finally be getting to her. "If it gets more stressful than this, I don't know that I can take it," she told E! Online after last night's performance, in which she and partner Derek Hough did a foxtrot to the theme of "Married ... With Children."

The pressure may have also been responsible for the argument between she and Hough had that producers showed on Monday night's show. "He was on his period," Grey said cheekily about her partner, trying to explain his mood. "We both care -- we both care a lot -- and we're both sensitive animals. I just want to do as well as I can, that's really all I think about."

Hough was more pragmatic: "Who do you have arguments with the most?" he asked. "The person you're closest to."

Grey and Hough are likely to be safe in tonight's elimination episode, with Bristol Palin and Kyle Massey having the lowest scores after last night's performances.

You can read more from E!'s interview here. What do you think, would Jennifer Grey leave the show because of the pressure?

Have to feel for Bristol.  Poor girl was raised on moose meat and smoked salmon and has to be under scrutinity because of the fame of her mother which is not necessarily a plus in everyone's score card, especially liberals.  The good thing is, the guy that fathered Bristol's child, has to be eating his heart out.

I looked it up, her father Joel is not dead as one other poster said. I didn't think he was as I saw him in the show House a couple of months ago. This poster must have gotten confused with Tony Curtis who died a couple of weeks ago & is Jennifer's best friend Jamie Lee Curtis' dad.

We can all now see why Jennifer Grey has never achieved her movie stardom that she could have had after Dirty Dancing.  She is just a complete victim of her own fears and neuroses.  She basically sabotages herself at every turn and then blames others like Derek for issues.  What other celebrity who, after they messed up during a dance, insisted and demanded to take the time during the show to demonstrate to everyone that she could actually do the move after the pressure was over?  Only a person so self-absorbed and insecure like Jennifer Grey.  On the other hand, Audrina appears to be devoid of any diva-like behavior and willing to try anything, including hard work and eating a raw onion, to improve herself and compete.  I don't know if its an act, but if it is, Audrina is a much better actress (and of course if this is the case, this image is manufactured with the help of the show's editor and producers) than I could ever have suspected.

Jennifer Grey is a wonderful dancer (no doubt), and I loved her so much in Dirty Dancing, but she is a lot of "drama."  Anyone who cannot get along with Derrick has a problem; Derrick, in my opinion, is very easy going and has always been a gentleman to his partners.  Jennifer is, more than likely, the forerunner to win on Dancing with the Stars, but not only is dancing important, but overall attitude should be considered when voting for any of the stars.  Is she a team player?  Is she competitive with herself, as she says, or is she out to win at any cost, including dramatizing everything that happens to her????

Derek Hough is a total professional, Jennifer is not!  She is a diva...without a career.  Derek does his best to make her look good but unfortunately it is not enough when you are trying to make a whiner look and act mature.

FYI Jennifer, take a tip from the athletes and suck it up, keep your mouth shut and learn from the professionals.  Remember Derek is a PROFESSIONAL, you however are NOT.

Let's see, she's played the cancer card, played up the Patrick Swayze emotions, she's currently on People magazine milking her drama and now she's playing the "oh, the pressure is sooo hard card.  Just go away!!!

The "stars" should never be people with previous dance training.  That would make an even playing field for everyone.  I'm hoping to see Bristol Palin go home tonight.

I don't think she even wants to be there.

Is was surprised to see her in this years show.  Her experience in "Dirty Dancing" should have disqualified her.  No one else has that level of experience, or any experience for that matter.  It makes it look like the fix was in.  I hope she does quit!    Besides, I am tired of all her drama!

She isn't going to quit.  She will remain on the show until she is voted off or is the number one dancer.  and I think she will be the number one dancer.

Her father passed away! He's in heaven watching her dance. I think she definitely has an unfair advantage over the others, after all she was in one of the all time greatest dance movies ever!!!!

oh.  I'll volunteer to take her place.  Some people want to climb Mt. Everest.   Dancing with Derek is on my bucket list and it's running a close first.

The comments regarding her background in dance are quite correct.  However I don't believe that was her career mainstay.  Her goal was in acting.  That being said I can attest that any person who attends a serious school for the arts receives at least some professional dance training and even voice training.  Many musicians get by without such diverse training but those going into the theater do not.  That is because their roles on stage often call for them to sing and dance as well as act.  Unlike the movies you cannot simply run in a 'stand in' to fake some of the scenes in live theater.  Participants like Kyle and Bristol are truly amateurs and are at a significant disadvantage from the start.  They are both young and have limited or no experience in the entertainment field so they have to work especially hard to keep up.

Let her leave, she whines non-stop. HER FRIGGN NOSE COULD NOT EVEN STAY WITH HER SHE WHINES SO MUCH. I still picture her with that beak and she makes me sick.. Derek Hough is the best dancer hands down, that is why they give him the best dancer for pure entertainment. You think we want to see these freaks THAT CAN'T DANCE do ballroom dancing. The show is getting old, they have to switch it up or it could b the end ??

I don't won't Jennifer Gray to quit. I think she's the best dancer out on the floor. I enjoy watching her more then the others. If she quits I have no reason to watch the rest of the season.

Actually she had no prior dancing experience when she did the movie, and ALOT has happened over the last two decades. give her a break.

Jennifer you need to quit being a DIVA!  Lot's of people have injuries and neck and back problems.  I see that you are a wonderful dancer but your attitude stinks!  Pull it together and keep on dancing!

Jennifer is the only reason I watch the show.  The panel is a joke, trying to emulate a quasie American Idol panel with Simon and Paula....it's just phony.  So there is no real contract at the end for the performers, no record or movie deals in the offings.  Jennifer is a catalyst for the show.  I would love to see her perform the closing routine from Dirty Dancing if her jerk partner can handle it.  It's all about entertainment and reality shows are nose diving.
