Dr. Drew: Kim Abused Kris

Was televised punch evidence of domestic violence?

E!

The villain role in the Kim Kardashian-Kris Humphries drama just became a whole lot cloudier -- at least according to Dr. Drew Pinsky. The celebrity interventionist paints Kardashian as a physical abuser, citing as evidence footage from Sunday night's premiere of "Kim and Kourtney Take New York," in which Kardashian punched her soon-to-be-ex-husband during a fight over a broken toenail.

Bing: More about Dr. Drew Pinsky

"What you are seeing there is domestic violence," Pinsky said on his Headline News talk show. "Anybody listening at home and viewing this has to understand the spectrum of domestic violence, and this is incontrovertible evidence of someone engaged in a domestic violence relationship.”

Whether the abuser poses an actual bodily threat to the partner doesn't matter, Pinsky said, noting that the violence always escalates and "it goes to a horrible, horrible place."

Pinsky -- who counsels victims of domestic violence in addition to washed-up celebrities battling substance abuse on national TV -- said he's not worried for Kim and Kris, since they're obviously splitsville. His concern is for the Kardashian fans who don't recognize the signs that they might be in an abusive relationship.

“A lot of people watching this may not understand this, and I get that," Pinsky said. "It looks playful. What’s the big deal?

"It is a massive deal and it’s important," he continued." People minimize this stuff until it gets to the emergency room. Then they're wondering what happened."

What a joke Drew is, he is even stomping on the ground to make people listen to him, he should be in the next JACKASS MOVIE because that is what he is to me.

Dumb Drew.

I think alot of you are missing the point. The point is not that they were playing around. I'm sure all of us have played around with our boyfriends. The point is that doing this on a regular basis or at the wrong time can lead to domestic violence. Who cares is she is rich and successful! Did you forget about Rhi & Chris Brown already? Never put your hands on a man especially if you in a bad relationship because what is to stop him from putting his hands on you..I have 4 brothers and the only girl on my dads side of the family so my bf knows he would get his butt drop kicked lol

Stupid.  Although this woman blows her nose and it makes front page.  I mean seriously has anyone seen keeping up with the kardashians? dont the sisters give each other more physical abuse than this?  People laugh at Jackass, Bams  ununholy union, fantasy factory. All that crap is hilarious to people.  And yet this is 'horrible violence'.  Doctor drew (who seems to have lost a lot of intergrity as it is) and the rest of everyone needs to seriously stop giving this woman so much attention.  Seems like another attempt for people to give celebrities waaay to much attention.  And them, benefiting from it

to most of you people this is all fake, and if this so called Dr. Drew is also a fake, a media whore, who just needs ratings and would start pointing fingers at anyone to get them.  Yes we all know that domestic violence is wrong, but this is not, why doesn't Drew go and help people that really need help, why, because they do not bring in ratings, thats all.  The K Klan does so he is going to use this 3 seconds on the episode to boost his ratings, and not only him but his Klan, the (producers).  Lets move on now.

david393071,

My heart goes out to you. I am a Marine officer's wife, who is "pre-deployed" (training in a separate location due to a single augment billet for 6 months before he leaves for a year long billet) and I can't imagine him having to coming home to that. I feel sick thinking about anyone of our service men and women having that kind of welcome home. Yes, it is very hard to be on the front lines at home, but that is what makes the military families the unspoken heroes along with the our military spouses and fathers. I hope that all of us families of our military remember that, and hold ourselves to a higher standard just as our men and women in arms do. I've seen both sides of the relationships, in the military and civilian world, do horrible things to each other, so thank you Dr. Drew for bringing this up in a way that puts what looks "innocent" on blast. What a great reality check for everyone, ironically from a reality show.

OMG, I am reading these posts and some of you are ridiculous. You are missing his point. He is saying what took place on both sides is abuse, he never said they weren't joking around, he states that is how serious abuse can be started. My son and his girlfriend used to play around but it left bruises on the girl and when I said something, she defended him. It can escalate and if you all think it cant, you're wrong, very very wrong. Anyway, Dr Drew was more trying to tell his audience if you're in a relationship like this, step back and take a look. I don't think he was trying to slam Kim.

To Puka181: if someone accidentally broke my toenail, I would be upset, maybe, it will grow back after all; however my first reaction wouldn't be to punch someone.

And for all of who feel sorry for her, she puts herself in these situations. If she didn't like the attention she was getting then she would remove herself from the situation.

Btw, I don't watch the Kardashians, I watched one episode once and thought it was utterly ridiculous, the only person of interest to me was Bruce Jenner but he didn't get a lot of airtime.

thanks for bringing this out although this may be staged it is happening everyday to me, I am a big guy like chris and my wife hits, emotionally abuses me daily like it's her job..this is a huge issue using a pop show to bring it out in the open good for dr. drew.

as a man there are very few ways to get help for this, it is an item that is hidden in our society. thank you for letting me know this is a real thing and that I am not the only one out here dealing with this...(and no I don't watch the show so I don't know the dynamic or the context, but that is not why I am posting it is just nice to know that I may be able to get some help)

Wow, sounds just like me and my ex wife.  As well as many of the spouses (male and female) of us (US Military) that are Deployed.

After returning from deployment, my then wife attempted to stab me with the Zwilling knife (part of the set that I bought, I like cooking), so I went into a bathroom and locked the door.  Her motive was that we were broke since she blew all the money from my paychecks on her boyfriend while I was deployed (he got her pregnant, raging hormones, later proven with a custody hearing between her and her boyfriend, he filed TROs against her (violent abusive behavior, assaults)).  Some of us return to empty homes (for sale sign on our homes), savings accounts empty, and broke like a joke with only the uniforms on our backs (spouse uses money to hire expensive divorce lawyer(s)).  I have found some of my women (Lionesses) with the backs of their heads blown off and divorce/child custody papers at their feet.

Would I ever abuse her; nope, as a US Military Officer, I know the repercussions under the UCMJ, US Civil Laws, and the Local Laws, as a Commander I have had to charge some of my men and women before.  Just like all of us are briefed (trained classes) upon entry into the US Military, and again before and after deployments (signed paperwork, and a psychological screening).

It is really difficult for US Military personnel (male or female) to admit that they got their **** whooped (abused) by their spouses (take the physical abuse without striking back and just leaving the spouse to cool off).  Filing a Police Report is extremely embarrassing (most Law Enforcement will not believe you even with Medical evidence, especially if you are of larger physical size (which we in the US Military Asymmetric Warfare Forces know does not mean squat) and filing a Police Report reflects more on the US Military Personnel; not the spouse, as a matter of bad judgment (selection of your spouse).

These are some of the reasons for the high suicide rates in the US Military.  As well as domestic abuse, etc..

And before all of you start with the name calling, etc. you join the 1/2 of 1% of US Citizens of the US Military, instead of being the 92% of US Citizens that have Never served in the US Military.  And if you ever become a US Military Officer (Commander), or have to do an Article 32 Investigation (US Military Person that committed Suicide, Domestic Abuse, etc.), then tell me that I am wrong and start with the name calling.  This is why after long investigations (almost 10 years) the US Law, US Service Members Civil Relief Act is being amended to stop the abuse of US Service Members by the US Civilian Spouses (male or female).

I know this is reality t.v, and most is probably staged. What Dr.Drew was doing was using Kim and Kris as an example of what abuse is. Right now Kim have a lot of people that look up to her, and her she is taking a shot at her husband's head. Now we all know that their are idiots that would say, "Oh look at that Kim does that I'm gonna do it too!" So it's good that Dr.Drew pointed that out.

Good grief... really??? Dr.Drew is full of it! And who ever agrees with him is too!  Has anyone seen any of the other Kardashian episodes??? Because I have, and I have watched Chris hold Kim, pick her up and through her on to her bed, carry her while she is protesting into another room n purposely annoy her...   I don't see anyone screaming "spousal abuse" then!!! Dr.Drew your "Rich & Famous" enough! Keep up with junkies n teen moms, and stop trying 2 cash in on successful independent woman! almost makes me think you cant be nice unless someone needs your help! Maybe you need some "therapy"....Nerd

These girls need to get a real life, they are just people like the rest of us. They are very beautiful and that is all they have. I am so sick of the Kardashians, they need to have to work for a living like the rest of America.

Just a bunch of spoiled bitches that we all feed into, grow up and get a life.

OK... This relationship is abusive... BUT.. When you have some HUGE OAF constantly throwing you around like you are a rag doll, and stomping all over you and insulting you and everyone HE comes in contact with left and right... you are going to get FED UP.  I see that punch as TOTAL FRUSTRATION !   She is a Tiny fragile woman and she has this man who is supposed to Love and protect her throwing her around and stomping all over her like she does not matter.  I agree this turns into domestic violence but this proves that Kim did the right thing by getting out of this mess while she can !   Good for you Kim !   It is best to get out before it gets ugly !  This big DOOF needs to GROW UP !!!   Personally I don't have that kind of time !!  He has a LONG WAY got go !!

I think Dr. Drew is right on...., and this is the problem that people have with relationships....even the littlest hits, and verbal jabs...all that stuff results into something more....i think Dr. Drew is right on, and this is the reason why so many marriages fail, or worse
