Lauren Conrad: 'The Hills' Was Partially Staged
Former reality star says story wasn't 'dishonest,' though filming 'sometimes was'
There seems to be no statute of limitations when it comes to reality-TV confessions.
Take Lauren Conrad for instance. The 26-year-old former star of MTV's "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County" and, later, "The Hills" recently came clean to Allure about her days on "The Hills," admitting that some of the scenes were staged.
"I think the story they told wasn't a dishonest one," she said. "The way they did it sometimes was. They aren't going to be there for everything. Sometimes two of their main characters will get into a fight, and that's important to the story line. The (producers) need that reenacted."
She added that by the time Kristin Cavallari joined "The Hills," the show's plots were "highly exaggerated" but prior to that -- Conrad was on "The Hills" until 2009 -- there were some genuine elements too. For instance, her romantic relationship with Brody Jenner was real.
"Brody and I did date," said Conrad, a fashion designer who now dates musician William Tell. "It was pretty brief. There was definitely editing to drag it out."
Conrad went on to say that "The Hills" taught her not to take fame too seriously and that detractors are to be expected.
"I think anyone in the public eye is going to be hated, and a lesson that I needed to learn quickly is that it is impossible to please everybody," she said. "One person will call you classy, and another will call you boring.
"People felt that a lot of the things I had were undeserved, maybe because I didn't have a specific talent. I was more of a regular girl and maybe didn't deserve the attention."
Complete & total BS. This so called "reality" program was completely scripted, which means the relationships were completely false. How do we know? Look at the long list of "writers" on the show when credits roll. There's no such thing as partially scripted reality TV; either it's the real thing (like "Cops" or "Deadliest Catch"), or it's a melodramatic fake crap like this one.
She's obviously a dishonest woman who thinks she's much more intelligent than everyone else. Unfortunately for her, she's actually less intelligent than the average viewer, and her lies are completely transparent...
Well duh, Dick Tracy!!!!
ALL reality shows are "partly staged". Whether through post-filming editing or out-right scripting, they're all fake.
Really?!?! My faith in reality TV is gone now... Oh wait, I never had any!
